The runback that sparked the comeback

More news about: Utica

With less than seven minutes left in the game and Utica trailing 30-13, Jack Derby deflected a Will Freed pass and Matt Stone intercepted it, stiff-armed a would-be tackler and returned it 83 yards to the end zone, starting the comeback that led Utica past No. 18 Ohio Northern 34-30 on Sept. 10, 2016. You may think you've seen this play already, but we have an extra angle and more audio. It's the D3football.com Play of the Week.

We solicit video of top plays from every Division III football program and this was our top clip.

Week 2 Play of the Week finalists

Here are some great plays which deserved extra mention:

Tyler Marrioni had 10 catches on the day for King's but none was more spectacular than this one-handed grab. King's went on to win at Lycoming for the first time in the history of the program, 41-28. This was the favorite of the fan vote and a very close second for the week!

Dante Smith hauled in a one-handed, 36-yard catch that set up Southwestern's go-ahead score in the come-from-behind 24-17 win over McMurry on Saturday night.

Alex Wasserman returns a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown for Cortland in a win vs. Framingham State. What makes this particular return unique is how he shakes off a tackler 10 yards from the end zone.

Berry wide receiver Chris Lilly hauls in the first of two fantastic touchdown catches on Sept. 10, 2016, in a 52-37 win vs. LaGrange.
