The D3football.com Team of the Week is our weekly honor roll, started in 1999. It recognizes the top individual performance at each position, drawn from nominations provided by schools.

Offense

 

QB Alec Vignola, Sr., Albright

Vignola finished 20-of-21 for 306 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Albright's 50-17 vicotry over Misericordia. He also led the Lions in rushing, gaining 54 yards on five carries, as well as accounting for a two-point conversion. Vignola's 95.2 percent completion percentage is a school record.

OL James Grennan, Caleb Ferdilus, Mark Sanchez, Justin Torres, Adan Barrientos, Brockport

The Brockport offensive line was stout in a 31-0 rout of Ithaca. The Golden Eagles picked up 11 first downs on the ground and 12 through the air. The team accumulated 442 yards of total offense, and nearly doubled up their opponents in time of possession. They were especially dominant on third down, converting 56% of their chances (9 for 16). Joe Germinerio was allowed plenty of time in the pocket, as he was not sacked on any of his 37 dropbacks, and completed 24 of them (64.9%).

RB Jordan Wilcox
Sr., Springfield

Wilcox helped lead Springfield to a 28-8 win vs. Kean to improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2013. He racked a career-best up 223 yards on 27 carries, averaging 8.3 per carry, and rushed for a pair of touchdowns, including a 51-yarder in the first quarter. He also added a touchdown reception of eight yards.

RB Sam Benger
Sr., Carnegie Mellon

Benger made the most of his nine first half touches in a 42-14 home win vs. Rochester, finishing with eight carries for 208 yards and three touchdowns, including a 92-yarder, to go along with an 11-yard touchdown grab. It marked his fifth career four-touchdown game.

WR Nick Holcomb
Sr., UW-La Crosse

Holcomb caught a career-high 10 passes for a school record 263 yards while tying a school record with four TD catches in UWL's 45-14 victory at Ripon. He caught three touchdowns in the first half helping lead the Eagles to a 28-14 lead. Holcomb has caught at least one touchdown pass in five straight games.

WR Gerald Perry
Jr., Millikin

Perry had touchdowns of 80 and 93 yards as part of a day in which he caught six passes for 207 yards and the two touchdowns. His 207 receiving yards were the third most in a game in Millikin history as the Big Blue edged Rose-Hulman 28-26.

TE Jacob Lewis
So., Wooster

Lewis turned four catches into 90 yards and a TD in a 49-35 win vs. Allegheny. His first reception went for 15 yards as Wooster went for it on fourth-and-2 from its own 35 on the opening possession. He caught two passes on the next drive for 26 and 39 yards, with the latter going for Wooster's first score. Last reception went for 10 yards on a third-down play that helped wrap the game.

Defense

DE Vincent DeCaterino
So., Union

DiCaterino had a career high three sacks for losses of 32 yards in Union's 28-13 home opening victory over Coast Guard. He also had another tackle and broke up a pass while forcing a fumble.

DT Patrick Vidal
Sr., Catholic

Catholic earned its first win in the Mike Gutelius era thanks in part to a staunch defensive effort. Vidal racked up a game-high 12 tackles as well as four tackles for loss. He forced a fumble and batted down a pass to lead a defense that forced five turnovers. The Cardinals forced two turnovers on downs on Utica's only two fourth-quarter possessions to seal a 16-10 win.

DT Danny Drummond
Sr., Benedictine

Drummond led Benedictine in tackles, amassing 13 (10 solo) while adding five tackles for loss. Drummond also recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. He had two of the Eagles' seven sacks as the team held St. Norbert under 200 yards in a 29-7 win.

DE Sherby Saimplice
Sr., St. Vincent

Saimplice tallied seven tackles (four solo), including one and a half sacks in a 25-22 win vs. Thiel. He provided the key defensive play of the game for the Bearcats, forcing a safety with a sack in the end zone just prior to halftime.

 

LB David Simpson
So., Susquehanna

Simpson moved into the starting lineup this week and responded with nine tackles and three sacks in a 38-34 loss to Johns Hopkins. His sack on third and goal forced JHU to settle for a field goal after they'd started at the River Hawks' 12, and another in four-down territory gave SU the ball on its 40. Susquehanna was in the end zone six plays later.

LB Shawntrel Garner
Sr., Carthage

Garner had nine tackles, including five tackles for loss at Carthage blanked Bethel 31-0. He outscored the Royals on his own with an 84-yard interception return for a touchdown. Seven of the nine tackles were solo stops. Carthage opened the season with back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 1921.

 

CB Jordan Powell
Jr., Widener

Powell had a pair of defensive scores, one of them a 100-yard interception return, to go along with seven tackles, a forced fumble, a sack, and 3.5 tackles for loss in Widener's 49-7 win vs. FDU-Florham. Both TDs came in the third quarter, the first coming when he strip-sacked the QB and scooped up the fumble, running it in from 18 yards out. Later in the quarter, with FDU driving, he jumped a route on the goal line and raced 100 yards.

S Dallas Raftevold
Sr., Concordia-Moorhead

Raftevold had a career-best performance to help Concordia beat six-time national champion UW-Whitewater. Raftevold had a career-high 15 tackles, intercepted a pass, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble. Raftevold's biggest play of the game came in the second quarter after Whitewater had just recovered a fumble on the Concordia 26-yard line. On the very next play, the UWW quarterback lofted a pass into the corner of the end zone and Raftevold was able to outjump the Whitewater receiver to make the interception.

S Nick Swore
Jr., Northwestern (Minn.)

Swore recorded two interceptions, the second one coming in overtime, as Northwestern defeated Eureka 19-13 in a key conference battle. Swore had a forced fumble and 11 tackles, six solo, to lead the Eagles' defense as Northwestern picked up its first victory of the season in the conference opener.

S Levi Wolf
Jr., UW-Stout

Wolf recorded two picks and pulled in a pass reception on a fake field goal attempt as UW-Stout defeated St. Thomas, 25-22. Wolf stepped in front of a St. Thomas pass in the second quarter and returned it 32 yards to the 3. Two plays later, Stout tied the game at 14-14. Moments later, Wolf captured his second interception as UST drove deep into Stout territory and Wolf picked off the pass on the Stout 12 to snuff out a 12-play drive. Wolf also caught his first collegiate pass on a fake field goal attempt and ran it 15 yards to the St. Thomas 25. Wolf finished the game with nine tackles, six solo.

CB Sean Egan
Sr., RPI

Egan had three interceptions, two pass breakups and a pair of tackles in RPI's 36-14 win at WPI. His first interception came on the first play after RPI took the lead, and the Engineers went down to score to go up 14-0. His second pick came early in the third quarter at the WPI 40, and his third came in the fourth quarter at the RPI 14, halting a long WPI drive. RPI went on to score another TD.

Special teams

K Michael Jacobs, Jr.
Sewanee

Jacobs went 3-for-3 in field goals, including two from more than 40 yards, while tacking on three extra point attempts in the Tigers' matchup with Washington & Lee. He connected from 20 yards, 42 and 44.

P Andrew DiNardo, Sr.
Catholic

Over eight kicks, DiNardo averaged 49.4 yards per punt, with a net punting average of more than 40 yards. His long was 62 yards. He also pinned two inside the 20-yard line in a 16-10 win vs. Utica. DiNardo's final punt of the day that came in the fourth quarter during a six-point game, went for 52 yards and pinned Utica at their own 14-yard line.

RET De'Eric Bell, Jr.
Guilford

Bell set ODAC and Guilford records for all-purpose yards in a game with 428, the NCAA's season high. He set the NCAA Division III record with 11 punt returns in the game, for a school-record 138 yards. He took a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown. In all, 275 of his yards were on returns.

ST Hassan Thompson, Jr.
Grinnell

Thompson blocked a Trinity Bible punt out the back of the end zone, getting Grinnell on the board. The Pioneers then scored on the ensuing drive as well to go up 9-6. They went on to win 15-6, snapping an 11-game losing streak.
