Games of Sept. 19-21, 2019

Offense

QB Kyle Barrett, Jr., Wilmington

Barrett engineered Wilmington's first win vs. Ohio Northern since 1956, as he threw for 406 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 34 yards and another score. That included leading an 89-yard drive which took 1:44 and resulted in a touchdown pass to Itika Wynn Jr. with 28 seconds left. Barrett went 26-for-34 and did not throw an interception.

OL Anthony DeBella, Alex Burns, Ryley Moran, Soren Salveson, Max Dowdy, St. Olaf

The St. Olaf offensive line paved the way for the Oles to rack up 327 yards on the ground and 501 yards of total offense with no sacks allowed in Saturday's 36-19 victory over Carleton. St. Olaf had two running backs each rush for more than 130 yards and a touchdown in the win, and the team's 327 rushing yards were the most by the program since at least the 2006 season. As a team, St. Olaf ranks 12th in the country averaging 277.0 yards per game on the ground.

RB Robert Shufford, Jr., Birmingham-Southern

Shufford rushed for 195 yards and two touchdowns in the Panthers' 49-30 conference win over Sewanee. It was his second consecutive 100-yard rushing game. Averaging 13.9 yards per carry, his longest rush of the day was 54 yards.

RB Akiva Wedge, Sr., Southern Virginia

Wedge's huge day of 237 yards on the ground and 12.5 yards per carry anchored the Knights to a 2-0 start for the first time since joining Division III. His 237 rushing yards and 271 all-purpose yards also became a program record in the D-III era. He broke loose for touchdowns of 41, 53 and 75 yards and added four receptions for 34 yards in the Knights' first game in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference -- a come-from-behind 29-17 win vs. Hampden-Sydney.

WR Justin Thomas, So., Albion

Hauled in a school-record four touchdown passes, catching them all from his brother, Kyle Thomas, in a 56-41 win vs. Eureka. He finished with nine catches for a career-high 171 yards and the four scores.

WR Andrew Kamienski, Jr., North Central (Ill.)

Kamienski set a North Central single-game record with 15 receptions and added 181 yards and two touchdowns. Ten of his 15 catches came in the first half as North Central racked up a big lead en route to defeating then-No. 24 Washington U., 46-13.

TE Ryan Curtiss, Sr., Muhlenberg

Curtiss scored the first two touchdowns of Muhlenberg's 24-17 overtime win vs. Susquehanna. Running out of the wildcat formation for the first time in his career, he rushed for a 2-yard score in the first quarter, and he caught a 17-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.

Defense

DE Ryan Bodolus, Fr., Dickinson

Bodolus reached double figures with 10 tackles, making seven solo stops, recording three sacks and forcing a pair of fumbles to help Dickinson keep possession of the Little Brown Bucket with a 52-20 win vs. Gettysburg.

DT Quis Icon, So., Crown

Icon led the team with nine tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack in a 35-32 loss against St. Scholastica.

DT Noah Kjos, Sr., Chapman

Kjos was involved in four of the Panthers' five sacks in a win against No. 10 Whitworth. He had four total tackles and three total sacks to help the Panthers disrupt the Whitworth offense.

DE John Hadac, Sr., Ithaca

Hadac recorded 10 total tackles (five solo), to go along with three tackles for loss, two sacks and hit the quarterback three times in Ithaca's 27-9 win over Alfred. Hadac tied for the team lead in tackles on the day as the Bomber defense held Alfred to nearly 20 points below its season average (28.5).

LB Ethan Pulley, Sr., Cal Lutheran

The Cal Lutheran defense shut out Pacific in the first half, holding them to 85 yards, thanks in large part to three sacks from Pulley. He had six tackles on the evening, three and a half tackles for loss.

LB Rusty Murphy, Jr., UW-La Crosse

Murphy finished with 17 tackles, including four and a half tackles for loss and two and a half sacks in UW-La Crosse's 23-17 loss at Dickinson State, ranked 16th in the NAIA. He also forced a fumble.

LB Conner Showalter, Sr., Averett

Showalter recorded seven tackles and had two interceptions in a 35-12 win against Ferrum. He also posted one and a half tackles for loss.

LB Ethan Roberts, Jr., St. Lawrence

CB Quentin Jackson, Jr., Brevard

Jackson recorded six tackles (five solo), a tackle for loss, and had the second of Brevard's three total interceptions vs. Christopher Newport on Saturday. The Tornados won 27-6.

S Jason Rodriguez, So., St. John Fisher

Rodriguez came away with two interceptions in the win and finished with 38 return yards as St. John Fisher defeated TCNJ 40-16. His picks led to two touchdown drives for the Cardinals, who scored 35 unanswered points in the second half to erase an 11-point halftime deficit. He also had three tackles.

CB Sean Knight, So., Carnegie Mellon

Knight helped the Tartans to a 20-13 upset win vs. No. 12 Washington & Jefferson, recording his first interception of the year with 1:40 left in the game to seal the win for the Tartans. Knight finished the game with two tackles and three pass breakups.

Special teams

K Brandon Nguyen, So., Carnegie Mellon

Nguyen scored eight points in the Tartans' 20-13 upset win vs. W&J. He started the scoring for the Cardinal and Gray with a 41-yard field early in the first quarter. The sophomore then lined up for a career-long 46-yard field goal with one second remaining in the half and split the uprights to give the Tartans a 6-0 lead at the break. He then converted both of his extra-point attempts in the second half.

P Fred Jackson, Fr., Rhodes

Jackson finished with 335 yards on seven punts, averaging 47.9 yards per punt, his longest of the season. Two of those were over 50 yards and four fell inside the 20-yard line. He made the following punts of 46, 48, 55 and 42 yards in the third quarter alone. He also recorded punts of 44, 46 and 54 yards in the same game.

RET Manni Romero, Jr., Norwich

Romero totaled 125 return yards, helping Norwich claim a 17-14 victory in the waning seconds of the "Little Army-Navy Game" against Coast Guard. His returns included two prominent punt returns of 42 and 38 yards which both led to scoring opportunities for the Cadets. His final punt return for 15 yards gave the Cadets excellent field position right near midfield which led to the team's eventual game-winning field goal as time expired.

ST Leo Ferreira, Sr., St. Olaf

Ferreira blocked a pair of kicks, including an extra point that was returned for two points to help thwart a fourth-quarter comeback by Carleton in a 36-19 win over the Knights on Saturday. After Carleton trimmed a 24-6 deficit to 27-19 with an extra point pending, Ferreira blocked the PAT and teammate Max Karpinske scooped it up and returned it for two points to give St. Olaf a two-score lead again. Ferreira also blocked a field goal on the first play of the second quarter with the Oles ahead 3-0.
