    Augustana rode a punishing ground attack in the first half and smothering defensive effort in the second to post a 20-10 win over Mount St. Joseph in the inaugural Austin E. Knowlton Kickoff Classic Saturday night at Lindberg Stadium. Senior Eric Chandler rushed for 167 yards in barely more than a half of action and the Viking defense held the Lions without a second-half first down until the final minute of the game.

    Dubuque rode its high-powered offense to a 39-21 win over Augustana Saturday night at Chalmers Field in the season opener for both teams. The key stretch in the game came late in the first half and early in the second, when the Spartans scored four touchdowns in a span of less than five and a half minutes and went from down 14-7 to up 33-14.

    The Augustana football facility is undergoing an extreme makeover and will sport a new look upon scheduled completion in August of 2013. Thanks to a multi-year gift from the Knowlton Foundation, the facility, which will be home to the school’s football and track & field programs, will be known as the Austin E. Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex.

With the win, the Vikings improve to 2-5 on the year and 2-2 in the CCIW, while North Park falls to 3-4 overall and 0-4 in the conference.

    Defense and special teams were the keys Saturday night at Ericson Field as Augustana defeated Carthage 19-13 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play. The win snaps a string of heartbreaking setbacks for the Vikings and improves the team's record to 1-5 on the year and 1-2 in conference action. Carthage falls to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Cushman, who spent the last three years as the defensive coordinator for the Vikings, was named the head coach following the resignation of Jim Barnes at the end of the 2010 campaign.

    Junior quarterback David Lee scored on a one yard run with just :30 left in the game to lift Augustana to a 20-17 victory over Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, November 13 at Ericson Field. The victory gave the Vikings a 6-4 overall record for the season and clinched their 31st winning season in the last 32 years.
  • Vikings fall to 17th-ranked Wheaton 20-14

    Looking for its first home win of the season, the Augustana football team outgained 17th-ranked Wheaton by nearly 200 yards Saturday, but was unable to overcome four turnovers and a pair of missed field goals, falling to the Thunder 20-14 at Ericson Field. Wheaton improves to 8-0 on the year and 5-0 in the CCIW while the Vikings are now 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the league.

The Vikings have now won 34 of the last 36 meetings between the two schools that share affiliation with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Augustana leads the series by a whopping 61-14-5 margin.

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — School-record tying performances from David Lee and Ben Hall weren’t quite enough Saturday night as Augustana fell to Central 28-23 at Ericson Field. Lee tied his own school record for completions in a game with 28 and Hall came away with three interceptions. The loss evens Augustana’s record at 1-1 while Central—the 7th-ranked team in NCAA Division III—improves to 2-0.
