BEREA, Ohio — No. 23 Baldwin Wallace University recovered from an early 14-0 deficit to beat Marietta College, 24-21, Saturday (Oct. 30) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference football action. The Pioneers fall to 3-5 on the season and 3-4 in the OAC. The Yellow jackets improve to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the OAC.

Marietta took advantage of some Yellow Jacket turnovers to build a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Caleb Boy intercepted a pass on the Baldwin Wallace 12-yard line to set up the Pioneers' first score. Two Bryce Agnew rushes covered the 12 yards and after Jake Bolyard added the extra point, MC led 7-0 less than six minutes into the game.

After forcing Baldwin Wallace to punt on its next possession, Marietta took over at its own 43-yard line. Following a defensive pass interference call on first down, Connor Vierstra connected with Agnew for 23 yards and then hit John Sierputowski for a 27-yard touchdown. Bolyard's kick made it 14-0 with 2:56 left in the first quarter.

Baldwin Wallace shook off the shaky start and went on a 15-play, 86-yard scoring drive that took over nine minutes off the clock. Jon Murray Jr. ran the ball in from the 1-yard line to get the Yellow Jackets on the board with 2:53 left in the half.

Marietta went three-and-out on the ensuing possession giving the ball back to Baldwin Wallace on the Yellow Jacket 32-yard line with 1:53 remaining on the clock. BW quarterback Reese Wamer broke a 38-yard run on first down moving the ball to the Marietta 30-yard line.

A 5-yard pass from Wamer to Jake Novak and a 12-yard Murray Jr. rush gave BW a first down at the Pioneer 13-yard line. Wamer passed for four yards and Murray Jr. ran for three more setting up a third and three at the 6-yard line.

Wamer picked up the first down with a 4-yard run and then moved the ball to the one on another carry. On second and goal, Wamer completed a pass to Darius Stokes for the touchdown tying the game, 14-14, at halftime.

The Yellow Jackets took the lead in the third quarter. Iyan Mitchell ran it in from four yards out to cap a 7-play, 49-yard drive. Dean Sarris added the extra point for a 21-14 BW lead.

Marietta answered right back scoring on a 70-yard strike from Vierstra to Agnew on the ensuing possession. Bolyard's kick tied the game at 21 with 6:38 left in the third quarter.

Sarris put Baldwin Wallace back in front, 24-21, with a 36-yard field goal on the first play of the fourth quarter.

The Pioneers' comeback bid fell short when Marietta turned the ball over on downs with 58 seconds left in the game.

Vierstra completed 20-of-27 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns. Agnew was held to 38 yards on 14 carries.

Wamer carried the ball 23 times for 139 yards. He completed 11-of-15 passes for 69 yards and one touchdown. Murray Jr. rushed for 130 yards and one score on 27 carries.
