R-MC Football Beats H-SC for Seventh Straight Time

More news about: Randolph-Macon

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Sophomore quarterback Presley Egbers (Clifton, Va./Centreville) passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more as the Randolph-Macon football team blanked Hampden-Sydney 28-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics:

Score: Randolph-Macon 28, Hampden-Sydney 0

Location/Venue: Hampden-Sydney, Va./Lewis C. Everett Stadium

Records: Randolph-Macon 4-0, 4-0 ODAC; Hampden-Sydney 3-1, 3-1 ODAC

How it Happened:

  • The Yellow Jacket defense forced a punt on the first possession by the Tigers. R-MC drove to the HSC 23, but was stopped on fourth-and-one. A second Tiger punt gave the Yellow Jackets the ball on their own 42. Egbers need nine plays to put R-MC in the end zone, hitting junior Ricky Mayfield on a six-yard scoring toss as the Yellow Jackets led 7-0 after one quarter.
  • R-MC would start its next drive on its own 2-yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Egbers hit sophomore David Wallis (Cedar Point, N.C./Croatan) with a pass out to the RMC 41. The Yellow Jackets would use eight plays to go the 98 yards, 80 of it through the air, as Egbers found the end zone from one yard out to give the visitors a 14-0 lead with 9:43 left in the second period.
  • An interception gave R-MC the ball on the HSC 29. Egbers capped the five-play scoring drive with a three-yard TD run as the Yellow Jackets went up 21-0 with 2:38 left until halftime. That would be the score at intermission.
  • Egbers would hit Wallis with a 19-yard scoring strike midway through the fourth quarter, making the final 28-0.
