KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College Red Men capped their 2017 season off on a high note, sending their 18 seniors out with a win in their final game at Art Keller Field after defeating North Park University, 35-12.
The win for the Red Men ends their season at 7-3 overall and 5-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while the Vikings' year ends at 3-7 and 2-6 In the league.
The ground game was the difference in the win as the Red Men rushed for 102 yards in the win and three touchdowns, while the Carthage defense held the Vikings to negative-10 yards on 19 carries. The -10 yards is the fewest allowed by the Red Men this season and it marks the fourth time this year an opponent has been held under 25 net rushing yards.
As a team, the Red Men defense tallied six tackles for a loss and three sacks on the afternoon. Emmett Trost led the Carthage defense with eight total tackles, including four solo tackles. Pete Laughlin concluded his outstanding career at defensive end with 2.5 TFL and 1.5 sacks in the win.
The Red Men also had their seventh multi-interception game of the season, picking off the Vikings four times. Connor Calvert picked his team-leading fifth interception of the season, while Shawntrel Garner and Amani Dennis each had their fourth. Also getting his fourth interception of the season was Albert Rogalski, who took a fourth quarter interception back 42 yards for his second pick-six of the season to end Saturday's scoring.
Offensively, Jamel Davis carried the ball a game-high 18 times for 58 yards and had three of the four offensive touchdowns for Carthage, raising his season total to ten touchdowns this season.
Making a start in his final game, Bobby Suchecki went 10-for-22 passing for 170 yards with a touchdown and one interception. Suchecki opened the scoring for the Red Men after a roughing the punter penalty extended the second drive of the game for Carthage. Facing fourth-and-six, the Red Men converted their first fourth down of the season as Bobby Suchecki found a diving Manny Jones for a 29-yard touchdown pass, giving Jones his seventh touchdown reception of the season.
Jones finished with three receptions for 47 yards and the Tommy Bazarek led the Red Men with 81 yards on two catches.
Saturday's win marked the final game in the careers of 18 Red Men that helped the continued rebuilding of the Carthage football program. For Nick Boelte, Mike Candre, James Cobbs, Camden Cotter, Gus Eisele, Darrin Funches, Nick Ganzke, Shawntrel Garner, Joe Godlevske, Darquise Holman, Pete Laughlin, Niko Messino, Eddie Miklasz, Joey Pausa, Dan Pauscher, Patrick Purvin, Bobby Suchecki and Isaiah Trussell, after starting their career's with a 3-7 record as freshmen, the senior class compiled a record of 19-11 their final three seasons to finish 22-18 in four years with the Red Men.
