ANGOLA, Ind. - Albion College fell just a touchdown shy of forging a tie atop the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association football standings. Unfortunately for the Britons, Dominic Bona's throw to the end zone in the final seconds was knocked to the turf and Trine University edged the Britons, 51-45.
Trine scored on its first two possessions, but Albion rallied to forge a 14-14 tie as Colin Parks scored a 3-yard touchdown run and Mikal McKoy returned a blocked punt 63 yards for his first career touchdown. Mike Czarnecki scored on an 18-yard run as the Britons claimed a 21-17 lead early in the second quarter.
Albion fell behind by two scores at halftime, but Joe Mayone hauled in a pair of touchdown passes to propel the Britons to a 35-34 lead midway through the third quarter.
Albion's prospects appeared bleak when it faced third-and-14 trailing 51-38 in the fourth quarter. Zach Brigham bailed the Britons out with a 61-yard touchdown reception with 3:25 left.
Trine was unable to generate a first down on its possession giving Albion a chance to rally for the winning score in the final minute.
Bona threw for 300 yards for the fourth time in his Albion career. He completed 18 passes for 316 yards. Cody Crawford hauled in six receptions for 95 yards.
Czarnecki and Parks combined for 144 rushing yards.
Albion begins the final month of the season with a Nov. 1 home game against Olivet College. Kickoff is 1 o'clock at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.
