One week after Loras put up put up 52 points in a loss, the Duhawks scored 56 in a win, with Nick Schulte throwing for 588 yards and six touchdowns.

Berry turned the tables on a conference contender in the Southern Athletic Association, winning the conference opener in dominant fashion by defeating Rhodes 24-0 for the first shutout in the program's history.

Rhodes, which went 8-2, 5-1 in the SAA last season, started off with two wins vs. overmatched opponents. But then the Lynx ran into Berry, which has been feeling the high of its third season of football and the first in its new on-campus stadium. Preston Stewart led the way for the Vikings (2-1) with four tackles (three solo), all of them behind the line of scrimmage in the win. He also had a forced fumble.

Nik Schulte set all of the Loras single-game passing records -- the positive ones, at least -- completing 47 of 64 passes for 588 yards and six touchdowns as the Duhawks outlasted Augustana 56-52. Schulte outdueled Sam Frasco, who threw for 273 yards and ran for an incredible total of 312 more, accounting for six touchdowns in the loss. (The single-game record for rushing yards by a quarterback belongs to another Augustana player, Matt Roe, who ran for 342 vs. Wheaton in 2004.)

"By no means am I the best player on the team. I'm the best on the depth chart ... Just being able to get it and then chuck it up to them, let them go out and make plays, that's the main thing," Schulte said after the game.

Nate Even caught 16 passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns in the victory, but the winning tally came with 5:45 left when Bryan Hermann picked off a Frasco pass and returned it 50 yards for a TD.

The Maine Maritime and Mass Maritime defenses calmed down after a wild first half and in the end, it was a goal-line stand by Maine Maritime that finished off a 47-41 win. Mass Maritime had gotten the ball on its 4-yard line with 3:02 left and drove all the way down to the Mariners 5, where the Maine Maritime defense stopped the Buccaneers on four attempts at evening up the game. Four Mariners ran for more than 80 yards in the win. UMass Dartmouth's Cory Burnham threw for 489 yards and six touchdowns to set single-game records in both categories and power the Corsairs to a 48-41 victory over Westfield State.

Widener's defense did everything but score, and in the end it wasn't enough as Albright defeated Widener 27-10. The Pride (1-2) held Albright to 132 yards of total offense, but Albright (2-0) scored on a fumble return, a punt block and three drives that totaled just 82 yards in the win. Donte Thomas got the scoring started for Albright with a 63-yard fumble return, and Malik Gilmore had the special teams touchdown. After Luis Quinones blocked a Widener punt, Gilmore returned it 34 yards for the score. Widener's defense had racked up 16 tackles for loss on the day.

Eric Montgomery came up with the big hit with five seconds left at the game, stuffing Lewis and Clark on fourth down at the 7-yard line to preserve a 20-14 win for Pomona-Pitzer. The Pioneers had converted two previous fourth downs on the drive. "That was a terrific play from Eric," said Sagehens coach Roger Caron. "If he gets there a step later, the receiver may have time to make a move and get into the end zone. He really made a great read on the pass, and made a winning play right when we needed it."

Cortland was victorious in its Empire 8 debut as Steven Ferreira returned at quarterback to throw for a touchdown and run for another in a 34-17 win at St. John Fisher. Dan Andrews had 28 carries for 225 yards and three touchdowns to lead Brockport past Hartwick 35-14 in another Empire 8 game. The Golden Eagles picked off Hawks starting quarterback John Garcia three times in the win. Alfred rallied from a two-touchdown deficit in the fourth quarter after Buffalo State lost its quarterback to injury as the Saxons came back to beat the Bengals 29-26.

Maryville didn't have standout running back Trenton Shuler in uniform, but it turned out to not matter as the Scots defeated Emory and Henry on the road 30-13. Deshjion Whitlock and Chaz Rokins combined for 115 yards on 35 carries to keep things moving and keep the ball out of the hands of the Wasps offense in the win. The Scots are 3-0.

Sam McDermott hit Tyler Frazee for a 39-yard touchdown pass with just 19 seconds left in the game and Gettysburg downed Juniata 39-25 to remain undefeated at 3-0. McDermott threw for 381 yards and ran for 65 more in the win. Mike Lefflbine was 35-for-44 for 349 yards and two touchdowns, the most completions in a game for St. Lawrence since 1976, as the Saints defeated Endicott 34-9. Endicott scored its touchdown on the final play of the game.

Another set of Engineers got the best of MIT as Jeff Avery threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns to lift RPI past MIT 42-7. It was the teams' first meeting in football. MIT falls to 0-3. WPI improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2009 as Dan Eckler threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another 60 yards for the Engineers of Worcester, Mass.

Albion cruised to a 47-14 lead after three quarters and was able to take its foot off the gas in the fourth as the Britons defeated Lakeland 47-21. The Muskies are the first opponent Albion has held below 49 points this season in running out to a 3-0 start.

St. Scholastica scored with six seconds and the Saints survived a long road trip, defeating Eureka 21-14. Dakota Paulson hit Shane finnegan for a 7-yard touchdown pass for the win, their second TD hookup of the fourth quarter.

Whitworth scored the first 39 points of the game and made them stand up in the second half to defeat La Verne 39-20. Ian Koste, who had to come back into the game to help stop the bleeding, finished with 381 yards on 34-for-43 passing for Whitworth.
