Hopkins' Bourdo Named First Team AP All-American

More news about: Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins junior defensive back Carson Bourdo added yet another honor to his growing and already impressive resume as he has been named a First Team Associated Press Division III All-American it was announced today.  This is fourth consecutive year that the Johns Hopkins football team has had at least one player named to the AP All-America Team; overall, Bourdo becomes the program's ninth AP All-American since Matt Campbell became the first in 2003.

Bourdo currently ranks third on the team in tackles with a career-high 65 as the Blue Jays (12-1) prepare for Saturday's NCAA Division III Semifinal at Mount Union (13-0).  He counts 5.5 tackles for loss and one sack among his 65 tackles, leads the team with four interceptions and also has seven pass breakups and one fumble recovery to his credit.

Bourdo has made some of the biggest plays of the season for a Blue Jay defense that has spearheaded Johns Hopkins' run to the NCAA Semifinals.  He opened the season with an interception near midfielder in the final two minutes of a 27-23 come-from-behind win at Ithaca, returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the game to seal a 26-13 win against Muhlenberg and had an interception at the Blue Jay 11-yard line in the fourth quarter of a 14-9 win at eight-ranked DePauw in the round of 16 of the NCAA Playoffs.

With Bourdo leading the way, the Johns Hopkins defense ranks among the stingiest in the nation.  The Blue Jays currently lead the nation in red zone defense with the opposition scoring on just 18-of-36 (.500) trips to the 'zone.  Johns Hopkins also ranks third in the nation in scoring defense (11.2) and the Blue Jays have allowed just six touchdown passes on 453 opponent pass attempts.

Bourdo adds his AP All-America selection to a 2024 resume that also includes a First Team D3football.com All-Region selection and a First Team All-Centennial Conference nod.

Of Johns Hopkins' nine all-time AP All-Americans, including Bourdo, five have been defensive players and four have played offense.  He joins Campbell as the only two defensive backs in school history to earn AP All-America honors he is Hopkins' sixth first team selection.
