Nine BW Football Players Named to 2024 All-OAC Team

WESTERVILLE, Ohio –
 Nine Baldwin Wallace University football players have been named to the 2024 All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.
 
Senior defensive lineman Jordan Smith (Painesville/Riverside) and sophomore defensive back Marque Vereen (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Bay Technical) were named to the first team.
Senior Academic All-OAC offensive lineman Grant Davis (Ottawa Hills), junior wide receiver Tim Conwell (Avon), junior linebacker Dom Tromba (Painesville/Riverside), sophomore quarterback Charlie Bubonics (Solon) and sophomore punter Joseph Evans (Chardon) were selected to the second team.  Senior wide receiver Vinny Lomeo (East Amherst, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) and senior defensive back Alden Steele (Lorain/Amherst) were tabbed as honorable mention.
 
Smith earns his third career accolade and his first-team selection.  He was a second-team selection the previous two seasons.   This year, Smith appeared and started in all 10 games.  He led the team and was third in the OAC with a career-high eight quarterback sacks and 10th in the league with a career-best 10 tackles for loss.    Smith was sixth on the team with 32 tackles. He tallied five quarterback hurries, forced two fumbles, blocked one kick, broke up one pass and scored his first career offensive touchdown with a one-yard run.  For his career, Smith appeared in 40 games and recorded 126 tackles, 36 tackles for a loss, 22.5 sacks, forced six fumbles and blocked one kick.  
 
Vereen garners his first honor after appearing and starting in all 10 games.  He led the team and was second in the OAC with a career-high 11 pass breakups.  Vereen also recorded 26 tackles and one interception.   For his career, Vereen has appeared in 20 games and has tallied 63 tackles, 21 pass breakups and three interceptions.
 
Davis earns his first honor after making the switch and starting in all 10 games at right guard.  He anchored an offensive line that averaged 371.3 yards of total offense.  For his career, Davis appeared in 30 games, including 20 at defensive tackle.   He has recorded 45 tackles, four tackles for a loss and 1.5 quarterback sacks.  Off the field, Davis is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree, College Sports Communicators Academic All-District performer, BW Academic Excellence Award recipient for highest grade point average on team, BW Lee Tressel Academic Award winner, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Dayton C. Miller honoraries.
 
Conwell garners his first accolade after appearing in all 10 games.  He led the team and was tied for third in the OAC with a career-best eight touchdowns.  Conwell also led the squad and was 11th in the league with a career-high 486 yards.  He led the team with a career-best 48 points. Conwell was second on the squad and was 10th in the conference with a career-high 37 catches.  For his career, Conwell has appeared in 30 games and has caught 78 passes for 1,010 yards with 15 touchdowns.  He has scored 90 points.
 
Tromba earns his first honor after appearing in all 10 games.  He led the team and was 15th in the OAC with a career-best 59 tackles.  Tromba also recorded three pass breakups, three quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and had half a quarterback sack.  For his career, Tromba has appeared in 28 games and has tallied 136 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, four pass breakups, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
 
Bubonics earns his first accolade after being the signal caller in all 10 games.  He set the school single season record for completions with a career-high 214, breaking a 31-year-old record.  Bubonics was second in the OAC with a career-best 25 touchdowns and third in the league with a career-high 2,146 yards. He also rushed for three touchdowns.  For his career, Bubonics has appeared in 13 games and has completed 233-of-336 passes for 2,429 yards.  He has thrown 28 touchdowns and rushed for three.
 
Evans garners his first honor after serving as the punter and placekicker in all 10 games.  He punted the ball 41 times for 1,407 yards for an average of 41.6.  Evans had a career-long of 68 yards and had 11 punts downed inside the 20-yard line.  He was 2-of-7 on field goals and 31-of-36 on extra points.  Evans was named the OAC Special Teams Player of the Week on September 9 and the 47th Lee Tressel Shrine Classic Player of the Game on September 7.  For his career, Evans has appeared in 20 games and has punted the ball 78 times for 3,183 yards.  He has recorded 31 punts inside the 20, 22 fair catches and six touchbacks.  Evans has converted 9-of-15 field goals with a long of 32 yards.  He has tacked on 66-of-74 extra points.
 
Lomeo earns his first accolade after appearing in nine games.  He led the team and was fifth in the OAC with a career-best 45 receptions.  Lomeo was second on the squad with a career-high 462 yards.  He caught a career-best four touchdowns.   For his career, Lomeo appeared in 31 games and caught 83 passes for 966 yards with nine touchdowns.
 
Steele garners his first honor after appearing in all 10 games.  He was second on the team with a career-high 54 tackles.  He recorded four forced fumbles, including three in one game, and three pass breakups.  Steele was named the OAC Defensive Player of the Week on November 4 and to the D3football.com Team of the Week on November 5.   For his career, Steele appeared in 30 games and recorded 129 tackles, 14 pass breakups, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.  He is a two-time OAC Defensive Player of the Week and D3football.com Team of the Week honoree.
 
The Yellow Jackets finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 7-3 and a 6-3 mark in the OAC.  
 
BW opens the 2025 season on September 6 when it travels to Springfield for a non-conference game against Wittenberg University.
