Lake Forest College football players A.J. Jackson and Thomas DeChesaro were named Midwest Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, on Monday after helping lead the team to a league title-clinching victory over Monmouth College on Saturday.
Jackson amassed 312 all-purpose yards and scored all five of Lake Forest's touchdowns in the 35-28 triumph, including two in the final 70 seconds, The grad student carried the ball 28 times for 159 yards and four touchdowns, caught five passes for 77 yards and another score, and added 77 yards on three punt returns. In the first half he reached the end zone on a 19-yard run, 47-yard reception, and 1-yard run. The Foresters trailed 28-21 late in the game before he turned in a 59-yard punt return and, two plays later, a 9-yard touchdown run to tie the score with 1:10 remaining. The game-winning score came on a 6-yard run with 22 seconds left.
Jackson is now Lake Forest's all-time leader with 70 touchdowns and 422 points in his career. The wide receiver and running back leads this year's team with 695 yards receiving and 557 rushing. He also leads the nation with 20 rushing touchdowns and 26 touchdowns overall.
DeChesaro matched his career-high with 13 tackles and added an interception and 50-yard return in the victory. Among his stops were seven solos and a tackle for loss and four of his tackles came in the final four minutes of the game. The junior safety's third interception this year and seventh in his career occurred at the Forester 38 and he raced up the left sideline all the way to the Monmouth 12 before being pushed out of bounds.
DeChesaro ranked third on the team with 50 tackles this season and now has 126 stops in his career.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information directors. DeChesaro also earned the award once last season and Jackson has now been recognized three times in his career on offense and six for his accomplishments on special teams.
