WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College defense scored its Division III-leading sixth touchdown of the season Saturday afternoon while the Wolverine offense amassed 34 first downs and 557 total yards Saturday afternoon as Grove City rolled to a 51-0 win at Waynesburg University in Presidents' Athletic Conference football action at Wiley Stadium.
Senior quarterback Logan Pfeuffer completed 21 of 26 passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns while senior wide receiver Scott Fraser (Butler, Pa./Knoch) grabbed 10 passes for 108 yards and three scores.
Senior running back Nico Flati (Aliquippa, Pa./West Allegheny) rumbled for 139 yards and a touchdown while junior Ian Demeri (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn-Trafford) added a touchdown run.
However, the Grove City defense opened the scoring Saturday as junior linebacker Caleb Brubaker (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) returned a tipped passed 82 yards for a touchdown with 11:17 left in the first quarter.
Fraser's eight-yard touchdown catch from Pfeuffer with 4:28 left in the quarter doubled the lead to 14-0. Grove City then scored twice in a 61-second span late in the second quarter to break open the game.
Demeri scored on a four-yard run with 2:02 left in the half, capping a 12-play, 92-yard drive. The drive began at the 8 after senior nose tackle Kobe Bonanno (New Bethlehem, Pa./Redbank Valley) recovered a Waynesburg fumble.
Following a Waynesburg three-and-out, Grove City took over at its own 45. Senior wide receiver Ryan Lenhart (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) caught a 28-yard Pfeuffer strike on first-and-25 while Fraser followed with a 25-yard reception. Flati then scored on a 17-yard jaunt with 1:01 left in the half.
Fraser caught respective touchdown passes of two and nine yards in the third quarter. With 12:08 left in the fourth quarter, junior quarterback Ethan Wiley (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) fired a 10-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Darviae Gray (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst West).
A punt snap out of the end zone with 3:06 left gave Grove City the final points of the game via a safety.
Senior safety Jason Muench (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and junior linebacker Ben Bladel (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon) both had sacks for Grove City (7-1, 7-1). Junior linebacker Jack Jollie (Jeannette, Pa./Penn-Trafford) had a team-leading six tackles.
Grove City limited Waynesburg to 169 total yards and seven first downs. Grove City held a 35:34-24:26 edge in time of possession.
Sophomore wide receiver Daniel Sullivan (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) caught six passes for 86 yards. He also went 6 for 6 on extra points.
The Wolverines will host conference rival Case Western Reserve (6-2, 6-2) next Saturday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day at Robert E. Thorn Field.
