PATERSON, N.J. – The William Paterson football team (1-6, 0-3 NJAC) was defeated 39-6 by Montclair State (3-4, 1-3 NJAC) Oct. 26 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match at Hinchliffe Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Red Hawks used eight plays to drive 65 yards down the field and into the end zone for a score on the opening drive of the game.
- Montclair State kicked a 50-yard field goal on its ensuing possession to push the advantage to 10 with 7:29 remaining in the first frame.
- The Red Hawks began a drive at their own 22-yard line with 14:51 on the clock in the second quarter and drove down the field for a touchdown to make it 17-0.
- Before the second quarter came to a close, Montclair State tacked on a pair of field goals to make it a 23-point game (23-0).
- The Red Hawks gained possession of the ball at the William Paterson 27-yard line with 2:02 remaining in the third quarter and used three plays push the advantage to 29.
- The Pioneers opened the fourth frame with the ball and a 10-yard touchdown pass from junior Amir Stewart to classmate Kyree Hinton capped an eight-play scoring drive.
- The Red Hawks responded with a 52-yard field goal on the following drive with 7:28 left to play before scoring a touchdown with less than a minute remaining to make it a 33-point game (39-6).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Junior Amir Stewart completed 12 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown.
- Junior Isaac Cherry toted the ball 15 times for a team-best 43 yards.
- Senior Duke McDuffie reeled in two catches for a team-high 43 yards.
- Junior Kyree Hinton caught three passes for 36 yards and a touchdown.
- Junior Quamire Green made a team-best 11 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss.
- Junior Jayce Harmon recorded 10 tackles.
