ANNVILLE, Pa. – Drew Campbell caught a pair of touchdown passes in the first half to power the Lebanon Valley Football team to a big 37-7 victory over Stevenson University on Saturday afternoon at Arnold Field in the home and Middle Atlantic Conference opener.
The Dutchmen (1-1, 1-0 MAC) held the Mustangs (0-2, 0-1 MAC) to five plays on the opening possession of the game and after a punt started at their own 37. LVC ran the ball down the field as Dion Bryant went to work out of the wildcat formation and rushed for three first downs. The Dutchmen thought they had the first touchdown of the game on a Braden Bohannon eight-yard pass to Rylee Stahl in the endzone on third down, but the play was called back for holding. LVC settled for a 36-yard field goal by Tim Kissinger to take a 3-0 lead on a 14-play drive that took over eight minutes off the clock.
After another quick defensive series, Bohannon found Campbell on the right side for what looked like would be a short gain. Campbell made a few defenders miss and ran down the sideline for a 62-yard touchdown to put the Dutchmen up 10-0 with 1:27 left in the first quarter. On the first play of the second quarter, Ryan Enright stepped in front of a Jordan Adams pass at the Stevenson 37 for the first turnover of the game. The Dutchmen were unable to gain many yards on the drive, but Kissinger increased the lead with another big field goal of 48 yards.
Enright intercepted another pass on the ensuing Mustang drive and returned the ball 14 yards to the Stevenson 46. Six plays later Campbell was back in the end zone with a 23-yard touchdown reception. The Mustangs responded with a 10-play 91-yard drive that ended with an 11-yard touchdown pass to cut the advantage to 20-7. Neither team was able to score the rest of the half as LVC took a 13-point advantage into the locker rooms.
Both teams punted on the first two offensive drives of the second half. The Dutchmen had a 10-play 62-yard drive end with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Logan Klitsch to Adam Acker to increase the lead. After a three-and-out, Klitsch has another touchdown pass, this time a 36-yard strike to Ethan Heisey on the third play of the drive to put the Dutchmen up 34-7 with 2:43 left in the quarter.
The Dutchmen scored the final points of the game early in the fourth quarter as Kissinger hit a 32-yard field goal that bounced off the right upright and through. The defense did much of the work the rest of the way shutting down the Mustang offense.
