Senior Dylan Clem's blocking helped make the Hope College football team a potent offense.
It also made the talented right guard an All-American.
Clem (Stevensville, Michigan / Lakeshore HS) has been selected for the 2023 D3football.com All-America Teams as a second-team honoree.
The 6-3, 293-pound civil engineering major is one of six offensive guards in the nation honored and one of two second-team recipients.
Clem's is Hope's second All-American of the season.
Earlier this month, sophomore defensive back Nick Flegler was named to the American Football Coaches Association All-America Second Team.
It is the fourth time in program history two teammates have been claimed All-America recognition in the same season.
In 2019, it was linebacker Mason Dekker and offensive lineman Zach Smith. In 1985, it was defensive tackles Blaine Newhouse and and Dirk VerMeulen. In 1984, it was quarterback Greg Heeres, defensive tackle Thurland Cole and offensive guard Jim Behrenwald.
Clem's blocking powered the Flying Dutchmen to a league-best 230.0 rushing yards per game. At right guard, the senior civil engineering major did not allow a sack. Hope averaged 38.1 points per game, second-highest among MIAA teams.
"I am extremely proud of Dylan for his incredible work ethic, his leadership, and his incredible compete factor," head coach Peter Stuurmsa said after Clem received all-region first-team honors from D3football.com. "Dylan has great feet and can run block with power."
