The Game
«  Johns Hopkins (11-0) welcomes Union (10-1)  to Homewood Field for the second round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Playoffs.

A Look Back
«  Johns Hopkins moved into the second round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs with a 62-20 victory over Western Connecticut St. at Homewood Field in the first round on November 18.
« Union went on the road in round one and scored a 24-16 victory at Delaware Valley to advance to this week's second round.

What's Next
«  The winner of the Johns Hopkins-Union game will play the winner of the Ithaca-Randolph-Macon second round game in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Saturday, December 2.  The location of that game will be announced on Sunday, November 26.

Series History
«  This week's game between Johns Hopkins and Union will be the first between the two schools in football.
« The teams shared one common opponent during the 2023 season as both teams played Ithaca.  Johns Hopkins topped the Bombers, 27-17, in the season-opener at Homewood Field, while the Garnet Chargers dropped a tight, 17-9, decision to their Liberty League rivals.

Against the Liberty League
«  In addition to being the first game ever between Johns Hopkins and Union, this week's game against the Garnet Chargers will also be just the 14th all-time for the Blue Jays against a team from the Liberty League.
«  This week's game against Union will be the second all-time for Johns Hopkins against a Liberty League team in the NCAA Playoffs.
« In 2018, the Blue Jays topped RPI, 37-14, in the NCAA Quarterfinals at Homewood Field to advance to the NCAA Semifinals for the first time in program history.

Program Ties
«  Johns Hopkins graduate student tight end Andrew Sheahan played at Union from 2018-21 (2020 season canceled due to COVID).
« Sheahan played in 20 games at Union during the 2018, 2019 and 2021 seasons before graduating and transferring to Johns Hopkins prior to the 2022 season.

Playoff History
« Johns Hopkins is making its 12th trip to the NCAAs, including its 10th since 2011.
« The Blue Jays are 11-11 all-time in the NCAA Tournament with a run to the 2018 NCAA Semifinals and a trip to the 2009 NCAA Quarterfinals highlighting their playoff history.
« In addition to the above, the Blue Jays have also advanced to the second round of the playoffs in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2021 and 2023.
« This week's game will be the 12th home playoff game in Hopkins history.  JHU is 7-4 all-time at Homewood Field in NCAA Playoff games.
« JHU has hosted a second round NCAA Playoff game twice previously (2015, 2016).

14 Straight
«  Last week's 62-20 win over McDaniel was Johns Hopkins' 14th consecutive win dating back to last season.
« The 14-game winning streak is the second longest in school history, surpassed only by a 15-game run that began in the middle of the 2010 season and ran through the end of the 2011 regular season.
« This is the ninth time JHU has had a winning streak of 10+ games - every Johns Hopkins winning streak of 10+ games has taken place since the start of the 2002 season.
« JHU's current 14-game winning streak is the seventh-longest in the nation in all divisions of college football (NCAA only).

11-Win Seasons
«  The Blue Jays improved to 11-0 on the year with last week's 62-20 win against Western Connecticut St.  JHU is one of nine undefeated teams remaining in Division III football and one of eight that is currently 11-0.
« The 11 wins this season are tied for the second-most in school history and mark the fifth 11-win season in program history.
« JHU won a program-record 12 games in 2018 and notched three consecutive 11-win seasons from 2014-16.

At Home at Homewood
«  Johns Hopkins has extended its school-record home winning streak to 18 games (dating back to 2019) with wins this season at Homewood Field against Ithaca, Christopher Newport, Gettysburg, Ursinus, McDaniel and Western Connecticut State.
« The 18-game home winning streak breaks the previous record of 12 straight home wins. JHU has twice (2014-15 / 2017-18) won 12 consecutive home games.
«  Since the start of the 2010 season, the Blue Jays are 65-7 (.903) at Homewood Field.

Rushing Into the Second Round
«  Johns Hopkins rushed for a program playoff-record 439 yards and six touchdowns in last week's 62-20 win over Western Connecticut State.  The 439 yards also rank as the second-highest single-game total in any game in school history (581 vs. Susquehanna - 1952).
« Ironically, of the three 400-yard rushing games on record in school history, two have come in the NCAA Playoffs as JHU rushed for 400 yards in a 58-27 win over Frostburg in the second round of the 2018 NCAA Playoffs.
« Four players fueled the 439-yard showing last week:

Spencer Uggla (25 carries - 216 yards)
- 2nd-highest total by a JHU player in a playoff game (Tyler Messinger had 231 vs. Frostburg in 2018)

Geoff Schroeder (14-100-2 TDs)
- 2nd career 100-yard game

Bay Harvey (9-64-2)
- 6th game with 50+ rushing yards this season

Andrew Rich (8-44-2)
- 2nd game this season with 2 rushing TDs

The 700 Club
«  For just the third time - and the first time in a playoff game - Johns Hopkins rolled up 700 or more yards of total offense as the Jays landed on exactly 700 in last week's 62-20 win over Western Connecticut St.
« The 700-yard effort is the third-best in program history and tops the previous school record for yards in a playoff game of 677 against MIT in a 49-0 win in the first round of the NCAAs in 2018.

Jays Top 400, 250 for First Time
«  Johns Hopkins rang up more than 400 yards rushing (439) and 250 yards passing (261) in the same game for the first time in program history last week against WestConn.
« JHU came close to reaching these marks in the 58-27 win against Frostburg St. in the second round of the 2018 playoffs as they finished with exactly 400 rushing yards and had 247 passing yards.
