Hopkins Tops McDaniel, 58-7, to Cap 10-0 Regular Season

More news about: Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins football team polished off the sixth 10-0 regular season in school history with a 58-7 win over visiting McDaniel at Homewood Field Saturday evening.  The Blue Jays (10-0, 6-0 Centennial) also locked up the outright Centennial title for the ninth time in program history with today's win and topped the rival Green Terror (0-10, 0-6 CC) for the 22nd consecutive season.

The Blue Jays got all the offense they would need in the final 24 minutes of the first half as they jumped to a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and tacked on 20 second-quarter points to build a 34-0 lead at the break.

Senior Gabe Feliciano-Munoz got the Blue Jays on the board with just under nine minutes remaining in the first quarter as he returned the first interception of his career 36 yards for a touchdown to give Johns Hopkins a lead it would never relinquish.

While the Blue Jay defense was forcing four punts and turning the Green Terror over on downs once on McDaniel's next five possessions, the Hopkins offense found its grove and scored touchdowns on four consecutive drives, all of which covered at least 60 yards.  In succession, the drives included …

• A 22-yard Spencer Uggla scoring run that capped an eight-play, 70-yard drive late in the first quarter.
• A 66-yard Bay Harvey-to-Josh Polce touchdown pass early in the second quarter.
• A four-play, 60-yard drive that Harvey polished off with a 43-yard strike to freshman Cole Crotty.
• A late second-quarter six-yard Uggla scoring run on the 13th-play of a 79-yard drive that ate more than five minutes off the clock and gave Hopkins the 34-0 halftime lead.

After Nick Smith caught the first of his two touchdown passes on the night to open the second half, McDaniel pieced together its best drive of the night as the Green Terror went 59 yards in nine plays with freshman quarterback Angel Granado, Jr. hitting Aaron Gale from 10 yards out to break the Blue Jay shutout.

Hopkins tacked on a 22-yard Max Blacker field goal and fourth quarter touchdown receptions from Smith and junior Marcus Cager to account for the 58-7 final score.
