Football Blanks Beavers on Homecoming 41-0

More news about: Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque football team hosted the Buena Vista University Beavers in one of their largest home crowds of the season during Saturday's Spartans 2023 homecoming. UD dominated the visiting Beavers in a 41-0 route against strong westerly winds.

In spectacular fashion and not seen before at Chalmers Field, the game ball was dropped in by one of our aviation programs Guimbal G2 helicopters, flown by Chief Flight Instructor Evan Lawler. He braved the winds and landed spot on at the Chalmers Field UD logo and ran out, presenting the football to President Jeffrey F. and Dana Bullock. The most picturesque shot of the day showcased his skills along with the bright red leaves from the Maple trees which highlighted the background of the landing. The football was flown in today to commemorate this year's homecoming festivities as well as serve to honor President Jeffrey Bullock as the University of Dubuque's longest serving President and this is his 28th year. During the anthem a flyover in one of the University's 27 fixed wing aircraft flown by Assistant Chief Flight Instructor James Drury capped off the spectacular pre-game festivities.

The Spartans would be the only offense for most of the afternoon as BVU struggled to find anyone who could move the ball dow the field. UD score in the first three quarters and held the Beavers to 57 rushing yards and 43 passing yards. The Spartans K.C. Moore completed 25-26 pass attempts for 294 yards and four touchdowns. He would lead the rush attack with seven rushes for 62 yards. Eight rushers would end the afternoon with UD scampering for 194 yards on the ground. Wade Sheets was targeted 10 times and caught eight passes for 69 yards and a touchdown. Jamari Jenkins finished with five catches for 84 yards and a touchdown alongside teammate Za'Cameron Brice who collected five for 53 yards and a touchdown.

Conner Halla punted just once for 67 yards, converted on 2-2 field goals (28 and 27 yards) and was perfect in extra points 5-5.

BVU would garner just five first downs with 41 total offensive plays in the afternoon and UD's defense was led by Brock Wood and Davien Flentroy who both finished with four tackles. Seven players ended with three tackles. UD led in possession time 36:12 to BVU's 23:48.

The Spartans (3-4 overall, 3-2 in A-R-C) will travel to Indianola, Iowa next week to face the Simpson College Storm with a 4:00 p.m. kickoff. The Storm (3-4 overall, 2-3 in A-R-C) beat Luther handedly on Saturday 56-14 in Decorah, Iowa.
