More news about: UW-Oshkosh

LA CROSSE, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh football team gave No. 4 UW-La Crosse a run for its money on Saturday (Oct. 21) at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex before falling 31-28.

The Titans (4-3, 2-2 WIAC) out passed the Eagles (6-1, 4-0 WIAC) 337 yards to 203 on 32 completions against 13 but were held to just 48 rushing yards to UW-La Crosse's 275.

Kobe Berghammer (Sr. • Clayton) completed 32 of his 45 passing attempts for 337 and three touchdowns, adding 23 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Receivers Dan Fynaardt (Jr. • Waukesha), Trae Tetzlaff (Jr. • Waukesha) and running back Doug Burson (So. • Yorkville, Ill.) all caught touchdown passes on Saturday on 96, 85 and 23 yards, respectively. Fynaardt's 96 receiving yards were a career-high mark.

Carson Raddatz (Sr. • Fond du Lac) led the Titan defense with nine tackles (seven solo) and Kyle Dietzen (So. • Omro) recorded his second interception of the season with a 2-yard return.

The Eagles scored twice in the first quarter. Keyser Helterbrand completed a 10-yard pass to Jack Studer and Gabe Lynch rushed five yards.

Berghammer connected with Burson early in the second quarter for 11 yards, bringing the score to 14-6.

After Helterbrand threw his second touchdown pass of the day for 17 yards to Tyler Bowman, Fynaardt caught a 2-yard pass from Berghammer and the two-point conversion attempt to cut the Eagles' lead to seven points headed into halftime.

Berghammer took the ball to the end zone himself five seconds into the fourth quarter, running 10 yards for his third rushing touchdown in three games.

Down 31-21 with 4:23 remaining in the game, Tetzlaff caught his team-leading seventh touchdown of the season on a 16-yard play from Berghammer. Oshkosh didn't get the ball back again as the Eagles drove the ball to the Oshkosh 32-yard line before kneeling twice to run out the clock.

The Titans will host UW-Stevens Point next Saturday (Oct. 28) for homecoming at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
