University of Dubuque Led #3 Wartburg at Halftime

WAVERLY, Iowa - The University of Dubuque football team led top ranked #3 Wartburg College in the first half of Saturday's game 10-7. In a hostile environment during the Knights homecoming, UD's defense held the hosts in check until a late score put Wartburg on the scoreboard in under two minutes in the first half. Wartburg powered back in the second half to outscore UD 24-0 to remain undefeated after winning 31-10 and maintaining a perfect 7-0 record on the season.

UD shocked the hosts with a 10-0 lead through the first quarter and looked like the Spartans might hold them scoreless in the first half until the Knights scored with 1:17 after a five play 60 yard drive. UD opened with a 41 yard field goal by Liam Smith to take the 3-0 lead. UD extended that lead to 10 after a six yard pass from K.C. Moore to Torre Butts Jr., capping off a 10 play drive for 42 yards.

K.C. Moore completed 34-51 passes for 239 yards and a touchdown. The Knights defense held the Spartans rushing game to just 23 yards on the day, Torre Butts Jr. led with two carries for 10 yards. Wade Sheets led all receivers with nine catches for 100 yards. Jamari Jenkins grabbed eight for 63 yards as Hunter Preston caught five for 40 yards and Torre Butts Jr. five for 11 yards.

Four Spartans ended with seven tackles. Alex RashidDalton WoodCJ Dean, and Chase Stuver all finished with seven tackles. Rashid had one tackle for loss and Stuver collected two tackles for losses of seven yards. Conner Halla punted six times for 234 yards and placed one inside the 20. Liam Smith kicked off three times for 176 yards (58.7 avg.) Devin Moore returned one kickoff for 18 yards and Ben Egan intercepted one pass and returned it for 18 yards.

The Spartans return home for next week's homecoming game vs. Buena Vista University on Chalmers Field with a kick-off slated for 2:00 p.m. The Beavers edged out the Luther College Norse 17-10 in Storm Lake on their homecoming for their first win of the season.
