UD Spartans Find Offense in Romp Over Prairiewolves

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque football team trailed early, but outscored the visiting Nebraska Wesleyan University 35-7 in the second half to put the game away in a 56-28 victory on Chalmers Field.

The Spartans jumped out to a quick start and led by two touchdowns in the opening quarter of play. The Prairiewolves would bite their way back into the game to take a lead in the second quarter 21-14 before UD moved the ball down the field in the final two minutes. The Spartans used a seven play 75 yard drive to tie the game just prior to halftime 21-21. The final two quarters fell in the Spartans favor as they would find the end zone with five different players. UD scored in all seven of their redzone opportunities.


UD ended the afternoon with 471 yards of offense (319 yards passing and 152 yards rushing). NWU would end with -2 yards rushing anf 244 passing yards in the loss. K.C. Moore led the air attack by completing 28-35 attempts for 306 yards and four touchdowns. Wade Sheets grabbed nine catches for 99 yards. Za'Cameron Brice caught seven passes for 82 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Eight receivers ended with a catch in the win.

UD's ground game was led by Devin Moore who rushed 15 times for 79 yards and a touchdown and Fabian Jackson who rushed eight times for 58 yards and a touchdown. The Spartans defense was led by Alex Rashid and C.J. Dean who both finished with eight tackles. Garrett Hertzfeldt finished with six tackles, including one interception with a return of seven yards and teammate De'Vaughn Bell grabbed a pick six on a 56 yard return with 4:19 left in the third quarter.

In special teams play, Conner Halla punted just once for 37 yards, Liam Smith kicked off nine times for 494 yards (54.9 average) and was perfect in extra points with 8-8. Torre Butts Jr. would return a punt for 18 yards.

Next week the Spartans travel to Waverly, Iowa to face #3-ranked Wartburg College Knights on their homecoming at 12:00 p.m
