UD Spartans Held to 16 Points in Loss to Dutch

PELLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque football team scored first on Saturday, but the host Central College Dutch responded and won their homecoming game 55-16. 

UD received the ball and moved the ball down the field against the Dutch and scored on a 22 yard field goal by Liam Smith to grab the early lead 3-0. Central would score on their next three possessions to lead 21-3. UD sliced into the lead after a Fabian Jackson rush from 23 yards for a touchdown with 11:33 left in the second and Smith converted the extra point 10-21. Late in the third K.C. Moore found Wade Sheets in the end zone for a two yard pass with 4:21 remaining in the third, 16-42.

K.C. Moore finished the afternoon completing 24-46 attempts for 264 yards and a touchdown. Torre Butts Jr., led the Spartans receiving corps with eight catches for 118 yards. Za'Cameron Brice caught seven passes for 78 yards. Devin Moore started at running back and led the ground attack with 18 rushes for 120 yards. Fabian Jackson carried the ball 12 times for 56 yards. UD carried the ball for 187 yards and passed for 256 to end the day with 443 yards of total offense. The Dutch pounded the ball up the middle 44 times for 233 yards in their running game and passed for 319 yards and finished with 552 yards.

Defensively, C.J. Dean led with 10 tackles trailed by Alex Rashid who had nine. Brock Wood, Ben Egan, and Ben Rashid all finished with seven tackles. Ben Rashid garnered two tackles for losses of eight yards including one sack.

In special teams, UD's Liam Smith was a perfect 1-1 in field goals (22 yards) and had four kick-offs for 241 yards (60.3 average). Conner Halla punted twice for 67 yards. Devin Moore returned a pair of kick returns for 41 yards (20.5 avg.). 

UD (1-3 overall, 1-1 in A-R-C) returns home to Chalmers Field next week to host Nebraska Wesleyan University at 1:00 p.m. The Prairiewolves (4-1 overall, 2-1 in the A-R-C) beat the Luther College Norse on Saturday, 35-10.
