More news about: Alma

Alma, MI – History was made in Alma on Saturday afternoon when football took on Adrian College at Bahlke Field. Alma was victorious by a score of 30-10 and moved to 9-0 for the first time in the program's 128-year history.

Things were rather tight in the opening drives, as the Bulldogs snagged an interception on just the second play of the game. The teams traded defensive stops before Alma found the endzone. Following an Adrian fumble that was recovered by the Scots, Carter St. John hit Nathan Goralski on a 15-yard pass to open the scoring at 7-0. Adrian fumbled on the next drive as well, but Alma lost the ball on downs. The Scots opened the 2nd quarter by capping an 11 play, 79-yard drive with a Nate Webb touchdown reception from 2 yards out, with the pass coming from Davin Reif. The score would remain set at 14-0 until just moments before the half. Alma sent out Josh Hernandez to attempt a 56-yard field goal, Hernandez brought out the big boot, getting just enough of the kick to skip it off the crossbar and through the uprights. His field goal was the second longest field goal in Scots history. Alma led 17-0 at the halftime break.

Hernandez connected again on a 35 yarder to extend the lead to 20-0 out of the half, before Tyler Walters scampered in from 8 yards out on a shovel pass from St. John to extend the lead to 30-0. The kicking game wasn't done yet, as Hernandez proceeded to drill a 50 yarder to push the Scots total to 30. Walker Evans connected on a 22 yard chip shot to put Adrian on the board, and the Bulldogs would toss one more touchdown in the waning minutes of the game to bring the scoring to its final place of 30-10.

Carter St. John led Alma through the air, going 14-24 for 133 yards with 2 touchdowns. Eddie Williams led the ground attack for the Scots with 77 yards on 15 carries. Tight end Cole Thomas led all Alma receivers with 3 receptions for 47 yards. Josh Hernandez was 3/3 on field goals, hitting from 56, 50, and 31. He was also 3/3 on extra points. Kaleb Kindsvatter also excelled in the punting department. He hit 4 punts, averaging 40.8 yards per punt, and also hit a 73 yard bomb in the second quarter.
