William Paterson Suffers Senior Day/Homecoming Setback to TCNJ

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson football team (4-5, 1-4 NJAC) suffered a 33-2 Senior Day and Homecoming setback to The College of New Jersey (3-4, 2-2 NJAC) Oct. 29.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Lions opened the scoring with a 36-yard field goal midway through the first quarter, then added a three-yard rushing touchdown for a 10-0 margin with 3:53 left in the opening period.
  • A 37-yard pick six pushed TCNJ's advantage to 16-0 1:12 later. Senior linebacker Nazier Wright blocked the PAT and junior defensive back Devyn Blount returned it for two points, making it a 16-2 game.
  • A seven-yard pass play pushed the advantage to 23-2 with 8:53 to play in the first half, and the Lions added a nine-yard passing TD 52 seconds before halftime (30-2).
  • TCNJ's 27-yard field goal finished the scoring at the 5:25 mark of the third quarter.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Junior quarterback Mele' Stalling was 5-for-14 for 13 yards.
  • Freshman running back Nazir Dale carried 19 times for 54 yards.
  • Junior defensive back RJ Massey made a career-best 15 tackles (10 solo, 1.0 TFL), adding a pass breakup.
  • Blount and junior linebacker Alajuwon Bell each made nine stops.
  • Prior to the game, the Pioneers honored their seven seniors – Nasir Adams, Key'mann Coleman, Matt Gore, David Pierre, Zahere Ritman, Tahir Taylor and Wright.

 

UP NEXT:

  • After a bye week, William Paterson will conclude the regular season Saturday, Nov. 12, at Montclair State at 1:00 p.m.
