LATE STAGES HOMECOMING RALLY STYMIED

ABILENE, TEXAS – Senior running back Rajan Cunningham (Dallas, Texas) pieced together an outstanding effort in his final appearance on the home FieldTurf of Wilford Moore Stadium Saturday, Oct. 22.

Cunningham produced 114 yards of total offense, leading head coach Jordan Neal's War Hawks in rushing and pass-receiving in front of better than 1,000 fans on hand for Homecoming and Senior Day 2022. He and a bedrock defensive crew that stopped visiting Texas Lutheran University on downs twice and limited the Bulldog's offense to less than 300 yards gave the partisan Maroon, White and Black fans on hand plenty of cheer about.

Even with those superlatives in their favor, McMurry was stung by three turnovers, including a pass interception in the end zone that killed a potential scoring drive in the second half. TLU held as large as a 17-3 advantage before sophomore quarterback Andrew McBride (Katy, Texas) went four-for-five for 67 yards and a scoring strike to freshman wide receiver Joseph Richard (Galena, Texas) to cut the margin to 17-10 in the final minute.

Neal's special team's crew attempted an onside kick to get the ball back for a potential game-tying situation. However, TLU recovered and ran out the clock to seal the American Southwest Conference victory.

Sophomore linebacker Herman Lee (Prosper, Texas) and senior defensive lineman Devin Nixon (Vidor, Texas) led the defense. Lee compiled 12 tackles, including one for loss, and Nixon had ten tackles, of which one and a half were for losses, and was in on half a sack.

McMurry (1-7 overall, 1-5 ASC) takes to the road on Saturday, October 29. Kickoff at Sul Ross State University's Jackson Field in Alpine, Texas, is at 1 p.m.
