Kingsmen Hold Lutes Scoreless in Second Half, Score 10 Unanswered Points to Win

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran football scored 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, while holding the Pacific Lutheran Lutes scoreless in the second half, and took down their non-conference opponent 17-14 on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Cal Lutheran now holds a 14-13 series lead over Pacific Lutheran. The Kingsmen improved to 2-2 and dropped the Lutes to 1-2.

The Cal Lutheran defense made plays all over the field against their opponent. Daylen Wilson led the charge with an interception and a fumble recovery, Shaihi Baker forced two fumbles and added a sack, Arthur Orta recovered a fumble, Devon Goosby tallied two sacks and Keshaun Charles and Darrin Parhameach had a sack.

Randal Voutt tied for the game-high in tackles and had 14, four of which were solo. Matt Flynn was next with 10, Gavrial Hernandez tallied eight and Jalani Blade added six.

Quarterback Nick Lasher was 22-37 for 192 yards with one touchdown and interception. Isaiah Martinhandled the running back duties and had 18 chances for 56 yards and a score. Julio Angel caught the most balls as he tallied six for 58 yards and a score. Cameron Jones was next with five catches for 53 yards and Dallas Martin had three for 33.

Down 14-7 at the half, the defense was on a mission. The Kingsmen allowed zero points in the second half. For the game, the Violet and Gold held Pacific Lutheran to 4-of-13 on third down conversions and 0-for-1 on fourth down.

In the fourth quarter, the Kingsmen made their move. The Kingsmen put together a seven-play, 72-yard drive capped off by a 25-yard touchdown pass from Lasher to Angel. The Kingsmen never faced a third-down on the drive as they moved the ball easily down the field.

On Cal Lutheran's next possession, they took the lead. During the kickoff, the Lutes fumbled, putting the Kingsmen in field-goal range. Orta recovered the ball for Cal Lutheran at the Pacific Lutheran 23. The Kingsmen moved the ball up two yards as Daniel Burgos hit a 39-yard field goal for the go-ahead score.

Pacific Lutheran had their chances, but the Kingsmen defense was there. At the Cal Lutheran 32, Baker forced a fumble and D. Wilson recovered.

D. Wilson continued his superb play, and on the next Lutes' possession, he intercepted the Pacific Lutheran quarterback at the Kingsmen 22.

The offense did the rest as Lasher completed a pass to D. Martin on a third-down which clinched the win for the Kingsmen.

The Kingsmen start conference play next week. Cal Lutheran continues on the road and is at Whittier on Saturday at 7 p.m.
