BW Football Outlasts Wilmington in OAC Opener

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University football team opened Ohio Athletic Conference action as it outlasted Wilmington College by a final score of 13-12 on Townsend Field inside Williams Stadium.

BW (1-1, 1-0 OAC) improves to 20-3 in the all-time series with Wilmington (1-1, 0-1 OAC), including winning the last 13 meetings.  In the last 13 meetings, the Yellow Jackets have outscored the Quakers, 548-168. 

BW was led offensively by senior All-OAC running back Jon Murray, Jr. (Cincinnati/Withrow) and senior quarterback Reese Wamer (Oregon/Clay) led the offensive attack as the duo combined for 202 yards of the Yellow Jackets' 230 total yards of offense.  Murray, Jr. rushed for 87 yards on 21 carries.  Wamer, who only played the second half, rushed for 80 yards on 12 carries with the game-winning touchdown.  He also completed 2-of-5 passes for 31 yards.  In addition, senior wideout Elijah Arnett (Akron/Woodridge) led the receiving corps with three catches for 44 yard.  Defensively, senior linebacker Mason Levasseur (Panama City, Fla./South Walton) recorded nine tackles while junior linebacker Vontae Jackson (Cleveland/John Hay) tallied eight stops.

Wilmington was led by sophomore quarterback Adam Dixon as he completed 15-of-39 passes for 187 yards with two interceptions.  Junior running back Ben Hobbs led the ground game with 50 yards on 18 carries with one touchdown.  Senior All-OAC wide receiver Ace Taylor led the receiving unit with six catches for 67 yards.  Defensively, sophomore linebacker Jarod Lee recorded a game-high 10 tackles and a safety.

BW closes out its three-game season-opening road trip on Saturday, September 17 when it travels to University Heights for an OAC and 34th Battle for Cuyahoga Gold Bowl game against crosstown rival John Carroll University on Wasmer Field inside Don Shula Stadium at 1:30 p.m.

The first home game is on Saturday, September 24 when the Yellow Jackets host an OAC and Parents' and Family Day game against Ohio Northern University on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium at 2 p.m.
