Defense Forces Two Interceptions And Shermeyer Scores Touchdown In Season Opener

LANCASTER, Pa. – Jacob Shermeyer scored from two yards out in the third quarter and the Lebanon Valley College defense picked off two passes on Friday night in the football season opener at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster. The host Diplomats won 26-7 in the first-ever night game played in Shadek Stadium.
 
After a scoreless first quarter F&M used a big second quarter scoring three touchdowns to take a 20-0 lead into halftime. The Diplomats got on the board with an 11-yard run from Aaron Rascoe to finish off an 85-yard drive. The hosts increased the lead to 13-0 with 2:35 left as Jake Fant found Isaiah Brown open for a 28-yard touchdown reception. Rascoe scored his second touchdown of the game just before the end of the half with a one-yard run.
 
LVC got on the board in the third quarter as Shermeyer wrapped up an 89-yard drive with a two-yard run on the 14th play of the drive. Laurence Miller kicked a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter for the Diplomats to set the final score.
 
Inside the Box Score

  • Shermeyer scored his second career touchdown and the first of the season for Lebanon Valley.
  • Erik Williams set the tone early with an interception on LVC's first defensive drive of the year. He picked off a Fant pass at the LVC 15 and returned it 30 yards. It was the fourth interception of his career.
  • Ryan Kilgarriff had a big interception in the fourth quarter as he stepped in front of a Diplomat receiver at the FMC439 and took the ball down the sideline all the way to the 10. It was the grad student's first career interception.
  • Braden Bohannon passed for 141 yards completing 15 passes and rushed 16 times for 65 yards.
  • Jay Sisko had a good night with 54 yards receiving on four receptions. Jeremy Bours Jr. also had four receptions for 33 yards.
  • Pablo Aviles-Bernal led the defense with eight total tackles including an 11-yard sack. Jacob Horton made seven tackles including two for a loss.
  • Jake Marcus had five tackles and forced a fumble.
  • The Dutchmen had 16 first downs in the game including nine on rushes. The team totaled 261 yards on 67 plays and held possession for 34:22.

LVC will play their second and final non-conference game of the year as they welcome Lycoming College to Arnold Field next Saturday for the home opener.
