CCIW Records Fall in North Central Rout of North Park

More news about: North Central (Ill.)

In a season which has already seen so much unprecedented offensive output, the North Central College football team outdid even itself Saturday, flattening North Park University, 84-6, to close out the program's fifth perfect 10-0 regular season at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

In securing sole possession of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) championship, the No. 1-ranked Cardinals established a new CCIW single-game record for total offensive yards (726) while also setting a new single-game school record for rushing yards (591). North Central's rushing yardage total is the highest by any NCAA Division III team this season, while its point total, the fourth-highest in program history, matches four other teams for the highest nationwide.

Defensively, the Cardinals yielded only 109 total yards, the fourth-lowest ever by a North Central opponent. North Park (2-8, 2-7 CCIW) managed just 35 yards and a single first down in the opening half as the hosts reached the end zone on all nine possessions in the first two periods. Ethan Greenfield, who gained 186 yards on just nine carries to become the Cardinals' all-time leading rusher (4,033), scored the game's first two touchdowns on runs of five and 13 yards, the longer carry getting a boost from a pancake block by Zach Fortier.

Terrence Hill scored on a 14-yard run, a crisp block from Sam Pryor clearing the way, and the fourth TD of the first period came from DeAngelo Hardy, who took a handoff, picked his way through a briar patch of North Park defenders and scampered 20 yards for the score. Hardy authored the Cardinals' next touchdown as well, hauling in Luke Lehnen's deep pass over the middle for a 47-yard score.

Greenfield scored his third touchdown of the day on a 47-yard run, and Andrew Kamienski caught a nine-yard TD pass from Lehnen before Hill finished the half with scoring runs of 28 and 14 yards. The Cardinals' three second-half rushing touchdowns came from John Michael Scumaci (44 yards), Darius Byrd (6) and Jake Johnson (1).

Hill finished with a career-high 134 rushing yards on just nine attempts. Lehnen completed 9 of 12 passes for 135 yards, hitting Kamienski five times for 58. Adam Green was the Cardinals' leading tackler with four stops, while Dakota Cremeens and Garrett Fiduccia each intercepted passes. Kicker Magnus Meyer set a new single-game school record with 12 successful extra-point attempts.

Kamienski finishes as the CCIW's all-time leader in receptions (227) and receiving yards (3,303) in conference play. The Cardinals establish new CCIW team records for points (533) and yards (5,285) in conference play in a single season.
