Husson Football Defeats Salve Regina on Senior Day

BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University football team scored the first 17 points as they defeated the Salve Regina Seahawks, 24-10, in Commonwealth Coast Football action on senior day at the Winkin Sports Complex. With the victory, the Eagles are 4-1 in conference play and 7-2 overall while the Seahawks drop to 3-2 and 8-2 overall. 

Prior to today's game, 19 seniors: Tim Albert, Derek Barden, Jacob Cameron, Nick Capozzoli, Kaleb Caron, Frank Curran, Quinn Donovan, Anthony Gray, Brandon Grover, Tyler Halls, Aidan Hogan, Josh Hoy, Jordan Marcano, Juwan Moore, Anthony Moscoso, Sam Peck, Michael Punt, David Redmond and Jarrod Taylor, were recognized for their accomplishments with the Husson University football program.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Husson won the toss and elected to receive and that decision paid off as they went 72 yards on 14 plays for the opening touchdown of the contest as Nic Visser connected with Hogan on fourth and goal.

The Seahawks first drive of the game stalled four plays in as Tucker Buzzell recorded his second interception of the season and set the Eagles up at the Seahawks' eight yard line. Two plays later, Visser ran for the score from eight yards out as the Eagles led by 14 after the first quarter. 

In the end of the second quarter, the Eagles tacked on three points as Aaron Paradis split the uprights with a 32 yard field goal. That was the longest field goal that Paradis has made in an Eagle jersey.  

In the third quarter, the Seahawks scored the only points as Jack Maguire and Max Devito connected for a 54-yard touchdown.

The Eagles led 17-7 to begin the fourth but the Seahawks got to within seven as Max Ward hit a 20-yard field goal. The Eagles responded and put the game to bed as Visser led the Eagles on a 13-play drive for 76 yards as it was finished off by Christan Walker catching his first collegiate touchdown as the Eagles won 24-10. 

FOR HUSSON:

  • Visser passed for 244 yards and scored three total touchdowns.

  • Garrett Poussard earned 106 yards on 27 carries. 

  • Halls finished with 91 yards off nine catches. 

  • Hogan caught seven passes for 61 yards with a touchdown. 

  • Paradis went 3-for-3 on extra points and a career long 32 yard field goal. 

  • Sean Savage and Curran each tallied nine tackles while Curran also recorded a sack. 

  • Buzzell recorded six tackles and an interception. 

FOR SALVE REGINA:

  • Maguire threw for 232 yards and a touchdown. 

  • Joey Mauriello had 14 carries for 33 yards. 

  • DeVito with four catches for 99 yards and a score. 

  • Zachary Tucker led the Seahawks defense with 11 tackles and an interception. 

NEXT!

The Eagles close out the regular season on Saturday, November 13th when they travel to Golden Bear Stadium in Springfield, Mass. to take on Western New England with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
