Records Fall for Benedictine in Home Finale

LISLE, IL - Tyler Jarnagin set the single game record for passing yards with over half of his total going to Deandre Holliday, who set the single game record for receiving yards as the Benedictine University football team celebrated senior day by scoring the final 28 points in a 49-21 victory.

The Concordia Chicago defense stopped Benedictine after a quick march near the redzone. Concordia Chicago utilized a big play to score from 74 yards out to take a 7-0 lead with 11:37 remaining in the first. Benedictine countered with an eight-play drive over a short field following a big kick return from Ryan Millsap and a penalty. Jarnagin rolled out to find Kiandre Morris on a one-yard dump to even the game at 7-7 at the 8:42 mark.

Blake Davis recorded an interception to stop Concordia Chicago and Benedictine proceeded to to use 10 plays to march into the redzone but got pushed back and stalled on downs. Holliday struck for his first touchdown of the day after Benedictine forced a punt. Jarnagin hit Holliday for a 73-yard score to pu Benedictine ahead 14-7 with 10:55 left in the half. Concordia Chicago quickly answered with a seven-play drive to even the game with 8:31 remaining in the half.

Benedictine needed just four plays to move 75 yards and take the lead again. Anthony Senerchia reeled in a 42-yard catch to make the score 21-14 at the 6:27 mark. Concordia Chicago need just two plays early in the second half to tie the game and score for the final time at 21-21 five minutes into the third. Sami Ayash put Benedictine ahead again with a 16-yard catch midway through the quarter to being the run of 28 unanswered. 

Senerchia extended the lead with an eight-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter before the defense again came up with a stop. Gregory Hoard broke away for a 57-yard touchdown scamper down the far sideline to push the lead to 42-21 with 10:41 left in the game. Benedictine capped the scoring with a record-setting pass from Jarnagin to Holliday that set the single game marks for both players with a 35-yard touchdown to cap the scoring at the 4:44 mark.

Jarnagin became the first player in school history to eclipse 500 yards, completing 29 passes for 501 yards and six touchdowns. The previous record was set by Ryan Sample with 475 yards in 2016. Holliday caught 13 passes for 281 yards and a pair of touchdowns, bettering Sebastian Singleton's record of 262 set in 2003. Senerchia caught a pair of touchdowns while Hoard ran for 91 yards with a touchdown. The offense amassed 593 yards. Ahmad Washington again paced the defense with nine tackles.

Benedictine (7-2, 6-1 NACC) ends the season at Wisconsin Lutheran next week.
