Brockport Set to Host Hartwick on Homecoming

BROCKPORT, NY – The SUNY Brockport football team is set to host Hartwick College as the campus celebrates Homecoming on Saturday.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Follow The Action: All five of Brockport's regular season home games will be broadcast live by Roc Sports Network (RSN). ROCSportsNetwork.com is Rochester's only local network showcasing Rochester and Western New York sports through podcasts, television shows and game broadcasts both online and on television. Saturday's game will also be streamed live on gobrockport.com/watch. Brockport alum Marty Czekala will be on the play-by-play for the Brockport live stream.  Live audio for all home games will be provided by 89.1 The Point, Brockport's student radio station. Live stats for all home contests will be available at gobrockport.com.
 
Week 7 Recap: Brockport jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first half and held on for a 26-14 victory over visiting Utica College in Empire 8 Conference action at Bob Boozer Field last Saturday.  Junior runningback Jala Coad carried the ball 38 times for 167 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns to lead the way for the Golden Eagle Offense.  The Brockport defense was stout once again as it held Utica to just 54 yards rushing on the ground and 190 yards of total offense.  Alaan MontgomeryRaylens Boutin and Ben Marshall each recorded one interception. Brockport also managed the time of possession to the tune of 39:42-20:18 on the evening.
 
Where We Stand: Brockport is currently 4-2 overall and 2-1 in Empire 8 play this season. The Golden Eagles topped Framingham 31-0 on the road in the season opener.  Brockport then fell to visiting and nationally ranked Ithaca College 23-8 before defeating visiting Rochester 16-7 at home in week three. Following a bye week, the Golden Eagles topped Fisher on the road 34-7 in Courage Bowl XVI before falling to nationally ranked Cortland on the road. The Golden Eagles topped Utica 24-16 for their fourth win of the season at home last weekend.  
 
Protect The Nest: Brockport is 23-2 at home dating back to midway through the 2016 season.  The Golden Eagles were a perfect 5-0 at home in 2019 and they also went 7-0 at home back in 2017. The Golden Eagles have won three straight homecoming contests by a combined score of 165-18. The three-game homecoming win streak began with a 45-0 win over Hartwick back in 2017. Brockport defeated St. Lawrence 65-12 in 2018 and the Golden Eagles also topped Alfred State 55-6 in their last homecoming contest back in 2019.
 
All-Time Against Hartwick: Brockport has won eight straight games against Hartwick. Their first meeting came back in 1946 during Brockport's first season as a varsity program under the direction of legendary Head Coach Bob Boozer. The Golden Eagles are 8-2-1 all-time against the Hawks. Brockport has outscored Hartwick 243-136 over the course of their last seven meetings.  Brockport has held the Hawks to just seven points in their last three meetings. 
 
Last Meeting Against Hartwick: Brockport jumped out to a 31-0 lead before halftime and held visiting Hartwick to -67 rushing yards on the day to earn the Empire 8 Conference shutout victory, 38-0, on Oct. 12, 2019 at Bob Boozer Field. The Golden Eagles rolled up 243 yards rushing and scored all five of its touchdowns on the ground. Brockport finished with 556 total yards of offense and held the visitors to just 99. Hartwick converted 1-of-13 third down opportunities on the day. Jala Coad led the ground game with three first half touchdowns. Raylens Boutin and Ben Marshall each intercepted one pass on the day.
 
Among the Nation's Best: The Golden Eagles rank third nationally and first in the conference having allowed just 59 first downs all season.  The green and gold have 15 interceptions, which ranks second nationally. Brockport's rushing defense also ranks third nationally, allowing an average of 41.2 rushing yards per game.  Brockport has allowed an average of just 188.7 total yards per game, which ranks fourth nationally.  Brockport ranks 13th nationally and second in the Empire 8 with a 3rd down conversion percentage defense of .259.
 
Pick City: Senior Alaan Montgomery ranks fifth nationally and first in the Empire 8 with an average of 0.8 interceptions per contest.  He has five total INT's, including four in the last three games for the Golden Eagles.

Building an All-Time Resume: Jala Coad rushed for 167 yards on the ground last Saturday and currently ranks sixth on the program's all-time list with 2,353 career rushing yards.  He also has 24 career rushing touchdowns.  He currently leads the Empire 8 and ranks ninth nationally with an average of 134.0 rushing yards per contest.  He also leads the conference in total touchdowns with 10, and points scored with 60.
 
Go Up and Get It: Senior receiver Imhotep Cromer ranks 19th nationally with an average of 7.0 receptions per game and he ranks second in the E8 with 453 receiving yards for an average of 75.5 yards per game.  He has caught eight or more balls in three of six games, including a season-high 10 in Brockport's season opening win over Framingham. He scored his first rushing touchdown of the season on a reverse against Utica last Saturday.
             
Leading Tacklers: Linebacker Ben Damiani leads the team with 34 total tackles this season.  He has 14 solo tackles and one interception for the Golden Eagle defense. Andrew Covais ranks second on the team with 31 tackles and Greenwood ranks third with 27.  Greenwood leads the team with 2.0 sacks this year.
 
Applying Pressure in the Backfield: Senior linebacker Lawrence Jenkins leads the team with 7.5 tackles for a loss this season. Jenkins also has one sack and two interceptions.  Josh Greenwood ranks second on the team with 6.5 tackles for a loss and linebacker Ben Damiani ranks third with 6.0 TFL's. 
 
Through the Uprights: Freshman kicker Nate Wigent ranks in the top 15 nationally and first in the conference with a .857 field goal percentage this season. He has made at least one field goal in 5-of-6 games this year, including a career-long 43 yarder in the season opener at Framingham.  He is also 13-of-14 on extra point opportunities this year.
 
Value Possession: The Golden Eagles rank fourth in the nation in Time of Possession with an average TOP of 36:19 per contest.
 
Don't Throw His Way: Sophomore defensive back Raylens Boutin, the 2019 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, ranks 11th nationally with an average of 1.7 passes defended per game this season.  He leads the team with seven pass breakups and he also has three interceptions.  He now has 23 career pass breakups and seven interceptions in just 18 career games. Boutin was a D3football.com Preseason All-American this Fall.
 
Under Center: Freshman quarterback Jack Cheshire leads the Empire 8 with an average of 16.83 completions per game this season.  He has thrown for 902 yards and he has four touchdowns.  He has 101 total completions through six games in the green and gold.
 
Down the Stretch We Come: Bport will hit the road for two straight at Buffalo State and Morrisville, before returning home for the regular season finale on Nov. 13th against Alfred at 12 p.m. Next Saturday's game at Buffalo State is the I-90 Rivalry game against the Bengals and it is slated to begin at noon. 
 
Captains of the Ship: Brockport's three captains for this season include Luke Lodini, and senior linebacker's Lawrence Jenkins and Andrew Covais. Jenkins is now a two-time Empire 8 All-Conference selection, while Covais earned all-conference honorable mention in 2019. Lodini was a 2021 D3football.com Preseason All-American First Team pick for the Golden Eagles.
 
Meet the Sideline General: Head Coach Jason Mangone posted his 62nd career victory following Brockport's win over Utica last weekend. He now has a 62-24 overall record. Following the 2019 season, Mangone and his coaching staff became the first group to earn three consecutive Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year honors in the 19-year history of the conference. Mangone has been named the AFCA Region I Coach of the Year in two of the last three seasons. Mangone and his staff have compiled a 36-6 overall record in the last four seasons.  In 2017 he was named the AFCA National Coach of the Year after guiding the Golden Eagles to the semifinals of the NCAA Div. III Championships.
 
Meet the Hawks: Hartwick is currently 1-4 overall and 0-3 in Empire 8 play this season. The Hawks' lone win of the year came in their season opener, 23-14, against Alvernia. Hartwick lost to nationally-ranked Cortland 48-3 last Saturday at home.  Davien Kuinlan leads Hartwick on the ground with 384 yards and three touchdowns on 101 carries.  Kyle Szokoli has completed 66 passes for 894 yards and five touchdowns through the air.  Jeremy Gerdvil leads the defense with 41 tackles and 2.5 sacks through five games.
