Record Day for Breaux Lifts Dean to 42-6 Season Opening Victory over Fitchburg State

FRANKLIN, Mass. – September 4, 2021– The Dean College football team made a triumphant return to the field, nearly two years after its last game, to defeat Fitchburg State 42-6. Senior Errol Breaux (Marietta, Ga.) scored all six touchdowns with five receiving and one rushing.

The Bulldogs improve to 1-0 and will travel to UMass Dartmouth next Saturday. Fitchburg State goes to 0-1 and hosts Castleton next Saturday.

Breaux finished with eight receptions for 247 yards and five touchdowns. He added a 4-yard touchdown run. Dean quarterback David Curry (Bethlehem, Ga.) was 18-30 for 372 yards and five touchdowns. He also had 82 rushing yards, including a 68-yard spurt.

For Fitchburg State, junior Frank Sims IV (Revere, Mass.) posted a game best 101 rushing yards on 21 attempts.

Dean sophomore Dre Kidd (Manassas, Va.) registered a game high 13 tackles, while sophomore Eduardo Guzman (Methuen, Mass.) led the Falcons with eight tackles.

Curry and Breaux connected, with three minutes left in the first frame, on a 38-yard pass to give the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead. Sophomore kicker Mason Dill (Carrollton, Ga.) made the extra point to make it 7-0.

The home team took a 14-0 lead after another deep connection between Breaux and Curry. With 23 seconds left in the first, the tandem hooked up for a 36-yard touchdown.

Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 14-6 at the half after a pair of second quarter field goals by Mac Kimball (Bow, N.H.).

Dean took a stronghold of the contest on the first play of the third quarter. Curry found Breaux streaking across the middle and he did the rest, taking the ball 71 yards to the endzone.

Eight minutes later, Breaux hauled in a 10-yard touchdown reception to put the Bulldogs up 28-6 at the end of three frames.

In the fourth, Breaux took a handoff from Curry and scored from four yards out to make the score 35-6.

With 2:09 left in the game, Curry and Breaux combined for a 57-yard pass and catch to secure the 42-6 victory.
