ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior captain and linebacker Nick Garone of the Ithaca College football team has been named a Second Team All-American by the Associated Press, which was announced on December 19. Garone becomes the 148th all-time All-American in program history and the 53rd named by the Associated Press – first since 2008 (Brian Weverbergh).

Garone joins fellow senior captain Will Gladney as All-American for the Bomber football program this season, as Gladney was a Second Team honoree by the American Football Coaches Assocation.

This season, Garone was named Liberty League First Team (two-time honoree) and D3football.com All-East Region Second Team. He was also a CFB Network Third Team All-American, as well as a four-time Liberty League Honor Roll recipient. Garone is also a Cliff Harris Award nominee, which is an award presented to the best defensive player in small college football (Division II, Division III and NAIA). The winner of that award will be announced on December 23.

On the field in 2019, Garone led Ithaca in total tackles with 101 (33 solo), interceptions with five and two blocked kicks. His five interceptions were returned for a total of 106 yards this season. Garone also forced a fumble, had five quarterback hits, 6.5 tackles for loss (23 yards), three pass breakups, and 1.5 sacks (14 yards). Outside of his linebacker duties, Garone served as the team's snapper on punts, field goals and extra points.

His 101 tackles ranked second in the Liberty League this season, as did his five interceptions.

During his four-year career which spanned 40 games, Garone logged 210 tackles, 19.0 tackles for loss (62 yards), 4.0 sacks (33 yards), six interceptions, five pass breakups, five forced fumbles, three blocked kicks and two fumble recoveries.

Garone joins his father, Bob, as an AP All-American for the Ithaca College football program. His father earned the honor in 1986.
