The Millikin football team defeated Washington University-St. Louis 35-28 in overtime on November 9 in St. Louis.
With the game tied at 28-28, Millikin scored on its overtime possession on a five yard run by quarterback Cal Pohrte. On WashU's possession, the Big Blue's David Rivers picked off Bears quarterback Johnny Davidson in the end zone to seal the Big Blue victory.
Each team posted touchdowns in each of the four quarters. Millikin had 451 yards in total offense including 297 passing yards. The Bears had 319 yards of total offense including 272 passing. Millikin had a major advantage in time of possession 40:26 to 19:34 keeping WashU's offense off the field. Millikin held the Bears to 3-13 on third down on 0-2 on fourth down. The Big Blue defensive backs had nine pass breakups in the game. Rivers had three along with Nathaniel Moore with three and David Jones with two. Tatum Teicher had a team high seven tackles.
Trailing 7-0, Millikin scored its first touchdown on a four yard run by Richard Cosey. The Big Blue went up 14-7 early in the second quarter with
Pohrte hitting Jordan Smith on an eight yard touchdown pass.
WashU tied the game just before the half on a Davidson to Nick Watts 33 yard pass.
Millikin opened the third quarter scoring with a 27 yard pass from Pohrte to Leigh Nutall.
Davidson connected with Jared Harrison from 24 yards out to tie the game in the third quarter. The Bears went up 28-21 when Davidson hit Sam Fenske from 24 yards out.
Millikin tied the game with 6:56 remaining on a six yard pass from Pohrte to Colton Lockwood.
Pohrte was 25-40-2 for 297 yards with three touchdowns. Cosey had 126 yards rushing. Smith had 109 yards receiving.
Davidson was 22-40-1 for 272 yards and four touchdowns.
Millikin is now 5-4, 4-4 while WashU goes to 6-3, 5-3.
