Millikin Shuts Out Elmhurst

        The Millikin football team defeated Elmhurst College 34-0 on a very rainy day at Frank M. Lindsay Field on October 26 in Decatur, Illinois.

        A steady hard rain fell during the entire game resulting in nine fumbles and a limited passing attack.

        Millikin gained 329 in total offense with 234 yards coming on the ground.  The Big Blue defense held Elmhurst to just 100 yards of total offense (18 rushing and 82 passing).

        Millikin scored on its first possession 13 play 65 yards drive that included eight straight carries for running back Ladavion Severado.  Severado scored the touchdown on an eight yard run.

        The Big Blue's second score came in the second quarter when quarterback Cal Pohrte connected with Jordan Smith on a 20 yard passing play.  Richard Cosey added the two-point conversion run to make to 14-0 Millikin.

        On its next possession, the Bluejays Treston Womack fumbled at his own 17 yard line after being hit by Alexander Perkins.  Ashton Sandy recovered for Millikin.  Pohrte connected with Colton Lockwood on a 15 yard pass to make it 20-0 Big Blue.

        Millikin would make it 26-0 with 1:28 left in the half when Pohrte found Leigh Nutall on a 17 touchdown pass.

        The Big Blue's final scored came early in the third quarter.  Nathaniel Moore blocked an Elmhurst punt and returned it 15 yards for the touchdown.  Cosey's two point conversion made it 34-0 Big Blue.

        Severado had 61 yards rushing on 15 carries.  George Jimerson rushed 13 times for 61 yards.  Freshman Marion McGhee had 11 carries for 50 yards.

        Pohrte was 8-12 passing for 95 yards and three touchdowns.  Smith had four catches for 51 yards.

        Jaquan Harrell led the Millikin defense with seven tackles including three tackles for a loss. 

        In addition to his block punt, Moore had an interception and four pass breakups.   Ryan Wimmer, Alexander Perkins and Matt Brown each had two tackles for a loss.

        Travey Durns led Elmhurst with nine tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception.

        Millikin is now 4-3, 3-3 while Elmhurst falls to 1-6, 1-5.

        The Big Blue travel to Illinois Wesleyan on November 2 at 1 p.m.
