More news about: Hartwick

BROCKPORT, NY – Two-time defending Empire 8 champion Brockport scored on its opening five drives and kept Hartwick off the scoreboard in a 38-0 win over the Hawks in an Empire 8 game played at Bob Boozer Field in Brockport, NY on Saturday.

The Golden Eagle offense racked up 556 yards on the day while the defense, which entered the game ranked fourth in the nation in total defense allowing just over 200 yards per game, held the Hawks to 99 for the contest.

Freshman quarterback Dan Livoti (Glen Head, NY/North Shore) threw for 127 yards on 12-of-19 passing for the Hawks. Davien Kuinlan (Bethpage, NY/Plainedge) connected on four passes for 39 yards. Jason Fucci (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) had a game-high seven catches for 37 yards. Rusty Virkler (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) caught three balls from a team-best 67 yards.

The Golden Eagles would score a touchdown and kick a field goal on their first two possessions for a 10-0 lead. The Hawks drove into Brockport territory on their second possession, getting to the 36 yard-line, but they turned the ball over on downs.

After a big passing play, Brockport scored two plays later to jump in front 17-0. A Hartwick turnover gave the ball back to the Golden Eagles which they would punch in for their third touchdown of the day and a 24-0 advantage.

The Hawks punted on their next possession and Brockport converted for seven more and the half would end with the hosts up 31-0.

Hartwick had its most productive drive of the day to start the third quarter going 55 yards on nine plays. The Hawks came away empty, however, as a field goal attempt from 37 yards away was blocked. 'Wick would get the ball back after a forced fumble from Matt Scotman (White Plains, NY/White Plains) was recovered by Eli Greene (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) but they couldn't generate anything out of it in a three and out.

Brockport would provide the final points on a touchdown five and a half minutes into the fourth quarter. The Hawks were forced to punt on their next two possessions and ran out of time on their final one.

Jason Hellwig led Brockport with 227 passing yards on 12-of-20 throwing. His top target was Imhotep Cromer who made six catches for 118 yards. Justin Morrison ran for 77 yards and one touchdown. Jala Coad rushed 13 times for 40 yards and three touchdowns.

Scotman and Dylan Williams-Bachman (Homer, NY/Homer) tied for a game-high with eight tackles each. Williams-Bachman also had one of the team's two sacks in the game. Jack Colbath (Monroe, NY/Monroe Woodbury) and Jeremy Gerdvil (East Northport, NY/Northport) had seven hits apiece with Kyle Kessler (Latham, NY/Shaker) contributing six. Nelon Priest (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) had an interception for the Hawks to go along with a 56-yard return.

Andrew Covais and Jason Karteron each had six tackles for Brockport, which had 15 tackles for loss, six sacks, and held the Hawks to only 1-of-17 on third and fourth down on the day.

Hartwick next plays at home for the first time in a month when it hosts St. John Fisher at 1 p.m.
