Benedictine Rushes to Overtime Win

MEQUON, WI - The Benedictine University football team opened the conference schedule with a 27-21 overtime win over Concordia University Wisconsin on the road.

Benedictine marched 75 yards on 10 plays on the game's opening drive to take an early 6-0 lead. Cam Barnes posted a pair of runs longer than 15 yards on the drive while Tyler Jarnagin completed both pass attempts. Kiandre Morris ran in from eight yards out to hand Benedictine the advantage at the 9:22 mark of the first.

Defenses dominated the remainder of the first half. Concordia Wisconsin stopped Benedictine on a fourth-and-one deep on the Concordia Wisconsin side of the field and ticked off the final 2:47 of the half, taking the lead on a 21-yard run as time expired that capped a 12-play, 79-yard drive as the hosts led 7-6 at the break.

Benedictine fumbled late in the third that led to another touchdown from Concordia Wisconsin to extend the edge to 14-6 with 3:39 left in the quarter. Benedictine countered with a 70-yard drive, mixing the pass and run to pull within 14-13 when Jarnagin connected with Alex Lopez for a 15-yard score.

Concordia Wisconsin used a big play to open the fourth as a 43-yard touchdown pass furthered the lead to 21-13 with 13:37 left. Benedictine stopped Concordia Wisconsin and took over with 10:08 remaining in the contest before proceeding to travel 80 yards down field on nine plays. Barnes plunged in from a yard out to draw Benedictine within 21-19 at the 6:27 mark. Jarnagin found Kiandre Morris on the two-point conversion to tie the game.

Both teas had a possession with a chance to win the game late. Benedictine utilized an 11-play drive to line up for the game-winning field goal attempt, but Tanner Mateus had his 40-yard attempt blocked to send the game to overtime. Concordia Wisconsin missed a 39-yard field goal on their overtime possession. Benedictine handed the ball to Joshua Williams five times with the final carry coming from the one-yardline to dive in with the winning score. The contest marked the second straight one-score contest between the two programs.

Benedictine ran the ball 46 times for 224 yards, averaging just under five yards per carry. Williams ran for 97 yards on 18 carries while Barnes complimented him with 64 yards on 13 carries. Jarnagin completed 14 passes for 197 yards. Morris reeled in four catches for 86 yards. The defense held Concordia Wisconsin to just 54 yards rushing. Kaiden O'Connor paced the defense with 12 tackles while Scottie Bobeck added 10.

Benedictine (2-2, 1-0 NACC) hosts Rockford in the homecoming game on October 12.
