Oxy falls to Cal Lu

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental football team played much better in the second half, putting up all 21 of its points in the 30 minutes, but the Tigers were too overmatched early in a 55-21 loss to Cal Lutheran at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.

Anthony Solis led Oxy's defense with eight tackles, a pass break up and an interception. Jackson Caudle had a team-high 10 tackles and Travis Thein chipped in eight. Mason Duran had a sack and some impressive plays early in the game.

Joshua Greaves went 9 for 23 for Oxy for 185 yards and a pair of shovel pass touchdowns to DJ Adams and Seth Holston. He also had 32 yards on seven rushing attempts and one rushing touchdown.

Gabriel Ramos had a big game on the ground for Oxy, rushing for 58 yards on seven carries.

Oxy's two biggest plays from scrimmage were nice deep passes from Greaves to Arman Henry, one going for 39 yards and the other for 30 yards. 

Jackson Taylor led Cal Lutheran with 16 rushes for 83 yards and two touchdowns.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 0-2 against NCAA-countable opponents and 0-1 in SCIAC play.

The Kingsmen improve to 2-2 and 1-0.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action next weekend at Whittier on Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. in the Shoes Rivalry Game.
