CWRU's Debeljak to Receive Golden Deeds Award

More news about: Case Western Reserve

Case Western Reserve University Head Football Coach Greg Debeljak has been named as a recipient of the Golden Deeds Award, presented annually by the Greater Cleveland Football Coaches Association.

The Golden Deeds was established to honor people who have contributed to the promotion of high school football in the Greater Cleveland area and to the activities of the Greater Cleveland Football Coaches Association.

"We feel Greg has contributed to high school football by his work as a college coach in the area," said Tom Narducci, the Committee Chairman for the Golden Deeds award.  "He has given many young men the opportunity to continue playing football and earn a quality education with his work at both John Carroll and Case Western Reserve University."

Recipients can come from occupations related to high school football.  Coaches eligible for the award can be retired from coaching, or an active coach who has been coaching at least twenty-five years in the profession.

"Past recipients include Paul Brown, Jim Tressell, Otto Graham, Dante Lavelli, Lee Tressel, Tony DeCarlo, Jerry Schweikert and Larry Kehres," said Narducci.  "We feel Greg fits in with this group."

Debeljak is the winningest coach in the program's history, and the only CWRU coach to notch over 100 wins in his career with the team.  Having recently completed his 15th season at the program's helm, he has a record of 110-45, including a 31-10 mark in the Presidents' Athletic Conference and a 28-16 ledger in University Athletic Association contests.  His teams have claimed UAA Championships six times, one PAC title, and have qualified for the NCAA Playoffs on four occasions, the latest during an 11-1 campaign in 2017.

He is a seven-time UAA Coaching Staff of the Year honoree, claimed the PAC Coach of the Year honor in 2017, and has coached eight players to All-America honors and 14 to CoSIDA Academic All-America awards.

The award will be presented during a ceremony on April 22nd at 6:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn – Cleveland South.  For more information and to purchase tickets, please go to www.gcfca.org.
