GREENWOOD, Ind. –Senior defensive lineman Logan Aikey (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) has been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Football First Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) it was announced on Thursday, Nov. 15.
The Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
Aikey is coming off another record-breaking year with the Bullets. He shattered his own program record for tackles for a loss with 18.5 hits behind the line of scrimmage this fall. He finished second in the Centennial Conference and 15th in the country in TFLs. Aikey also racked up a team-best nine sacks and totaled 60 tackles and two forced fumbles.
A reserve in his first two years on the roster, Aikey blossomed into one of the most feared pass-rushers in the league in his final two campaigns. He started all 20 games and finished with 126 tackles, 36 tackles for a loss, and 17 sacks. Aikey finished second in TFLs and ninth in sacks in program history.
Aikey, who is a History major with a Civil War Era Studies minor, is the continuation of a strong Gettysburg tradition of academic excellence. Bullets have graced the Academic All-District list in each of the last eight seasons with 11 total selections during that time. Overall, Aikey is Gettysburg's 15th Academic All-District honoree since 2002 and he will seek to become the program's seventh Academic All-American next month. The last Bullet to earn Academic All-America was offensive lineman Cordell Boggs '17 in 2016.
