More news about: Dubuque

STORM LAKE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque held the host Buena Vista University Beavers to just one score on Saturday as the Spartans won 38-7 on the road in a very windy Storm Lake. Despite the wind, quarterback Sean Duffy (So., Anchorage, Alaska/West Anchorage H.S.) found his receivers all day and was 12-18 for 187 yards and three touchdowns. His favorite target was Emanuel Jenkins (Jr., Menasha, Wis./Menasha H.S.) who led all receivers with seven catches for 118 yards and a touchdown.

UD unphased by the breezy conditions, completed the day with 413 yards of total offense (226 yards on the ground and 187 through the air) and ended with 19 first downs. The Spartan defense kept the Beavers in check all day and held them to 213 total yards including just 99 yards on the ground. UD finished the afternoon with five sacks, one each by: De'Quan Ramsey (Fr., Carol Stream, Ill./Whewaton North H.S.). Joxua Baughman (So., Ansbach, Germany/Ansbach H.S.), Kyle Marsh (So., Oswego, Ill./Oswego), Jacob Trotter (So., Tripoli, Iowa/Wapsoe Valley H.S.), and Quincy Topel (Jr., Elgin, Ill./Larkin H.S.). Senior Josh Ezekiel (Lake in the Hills, Ill./Huntley H.S.) intercepted the Beavers twice and returned for a combined 39 yards.

Bruno Prosper Kanam (Fr., Skokie, Ill./Niles North H.S.) led the Spartans rushing with nine for 80 yards which included an 80 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Dwayne Allen Jr. (Jr., Hampshire, Ill./St. Edward Central Catholic H.S.) fnished with 16 carries for 61 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter. In special teams play, Andy Vujnovich (Fr., Columbus, Wis./Columbus H.S.) punted twice in awful windy conditions for 20 yards, but was perfect in field goals with a 38 yard score in the third quarter and an unblemished 5-5 in extra points.

The Spartans 5-2 overall, 4-1 in American Rivers Conference) return home next week to face the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves (2-6 overall, 1-5 in A-R-C) for homecoming with kick-off slated for 2 p.m. The Prairie Wolves won on Saturday beating the Luther College Norse 23-15 in Lincoln, Neb.
