The Pacific University football extended a pair of winning streaks, winning 54-22 over Lewis & Clark on Saturday afternoon. The Boxers have now won five consecutive homecoming contests, three-straight home games and two in a row against Northwest Conference teams.
The Boxers (4-3, 3-1 NWC) outscored the visiting Pioneers by a 34-7 margin in the final 30 minutes for the win. Senior quarterback J.T. Greenough completed 16 of 33 passes for 296 yards and four touchdowns. The last time a Pacific quarterback threw four touchdown passes was when Campbell Summerfield, who happened to be in attendance, threw four touchdown passes against Puget Sound in the 2016 season finale on November 12, 2016.
Greenough connected with Hayden Von Almen for seven passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns. The 172 yards receiving by Von Almen are the most by a Boxer receiver since Kobe Williams had 237 yards receiving on four 20 receptions for two touchdowns on October 29, 2016.
Von Almen was not the only Boxer, who found the end zone more than once. Senior Kevin McGee had a pair of touchdown rushes to go along with 47 yards on nine carries in the win. Joining Von Almen and McGee in the end zone were sophomores Ty Hargis and Jack Lopez via the air and senior Storm Lotomau on the ground. The touchdowns scored by Lotomau and Lopez are the first of their careers.
Not to be lost in all the offensive fireworks is kicker Caden Almer made six point-after attempts and a pair of field goals.
The Pacific defense held a Lewis & Clark offense to just 23 yards on the ground and 4 of 19 on third down. The Pioneers were 0-for-7 in the second half The Pioneers entered the game, averaging 108.3 yards on the ground and a 36% conversation effort on third down.
Leading the defense was Cole Thomas, who had 10 tackles and a pair of pass breakups. Bobby Ulrich had a pair of tackles for loss, a forced fumble, fumble recovery and a blocked kick; plus, Tristan Smith forced a fumble to go along with two sacks and three pass hurries. The forced fumble is the fifth of the season and the blocked kick is the fourth of the season for Ulrich, setting new Pacific single-season records.
Next, Pacific will travel to face Whitworth on Saturday, October 27 at 1 p.m. in Spokane.
