BW Football Holds Off Wilmington for OAC Victory

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University football team held off a fourth quarter Wilmington College rally to win a 35-33 Ohio Athletic Conference game inside Williams Stadium.

BW (6-1, 5-1 OAC) improved to 17-3 in the all-time series and has now won 10 straight meetings.  Wilmington (1-6, 1-6 OAC) has been outscored 422-150 in the last 10 contests. 

Offensively for BW, senior quarterback Jake Hudson (East Lake, Florida) completed 18 of 24 passes for 285 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Freshman running back Jon Murray Jr. (Cincinnati/Withrow) led the ground attack as he rushed for a game-high and career-best 162 yards on 15 carries with one touchdown.  Senior wide out Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) led the receiving corps with five catches for a career-high 112 yards with two touchdowns.  Defensively, the sophomore defensive end Taino Arocho (Holiday, Fla./Anclote) had a career-high seven tackles.

Wilmington was led by sophomore quarterback Kyle Barrett as he completed 19 of 30 passes for 222 yards with four touchdowns.  Freshman running back DJ Chambers was the leading rusher as he gained 142 yards on 21 carries with a 62-yard touchdown.  Freshmen receivers Luke Richardson and Ace Taylor led the receivers. Richardson had four catches for 84 yards with two touchdowns and Ace Taylor had eight catches for 71 yards and two touchdowns.  Defensively, sophomore Tre'Quez Parks registered a game-high 14 tackles.

The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring when Hudson scampered 26-yards to pay dirt at the 11:50 mark. Junior place kicker Jimmy Marshall (Lakewood) added the extra point for the 7-0 lead.  BW added to its lead when Hudson hit Steinwachs on a 50-yard pass play at 7:57. Marshall tacked on the point after for the 14-0 lead.  The Quakers cut the lead down to 14-6 when Barrett hit freshman wide receiver Ace Taylor with a five-yard pass for the score at the 3:55 mark.  The extra point attempt was no good.

The Yellow Jackets opened the second quarter scoring when Murray, Jr.  scored on a three-yard run at the 14:37 mark.  Marshall hit the extra point for the 21-6 lead.  Wilmington cut the lead down to 21-13 when Barnett hooked up with Richardson on a 41-yard pass play at 3:43. Tyler Butcher added the extra point.  BW scored its final points of the first half when Hudson and Steinwachs connected for the second time on a 15-yard pass play with 55 seconds remaining.  Marshall tacked on the point after.  The Quakers closed out the scoring with Chambers broke a 62-yard run for the score with 25 seconds left.  Butcher added the point after. 

The Yellow Jackets scored the only points of the third quarter when Hudson eluded the Wilmington rush and scampered 15-yards for his second rushing touchdown of the game to extend the lead to 35-20 at the 11:48 mark.  Marshall hit the point after.

The Quakers opened the final quarter scoring when Barrett and Richardson connected for the second time on a 41-yard pass play to cut the lead down to 35-26 at 4:55. Wilmington went for two on a trick play but the pass sailed out of bounds.  After an onside kick, the Quakers cut the lead down to 35-33 when Ace Taylor caught his second touchdown of the game on a 23-yard pass from Barrett at 3:23. Butcher added the point after.  Wilmington tried another onside kick but it went out of bounds.  BW was able to get two first downs and run out the clock. 

The Yellow Jackets remain on the road when they travels to Marietta on Saturday, October 27 for an OAC game against Marietta College in Don Drumm Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
