Stevenson Downs Dutchmen 36-7

More news about: Stevenson

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson held Lebanon Valley to just 211 yards of total offense and sophomore quarterback Ty Crabb had 113 yards rushing and 199 yards passing in his first career start as the Mustangs downed the Dutchmen 36-7 in Middle Atlantic Conference football Saturday afternoon.

FIRST QUARTER

  • Stevenson came up with a takeaway on the opening kickoff, as Hanif Jones stripped the LVC returner at midfield, and Keenan Franz recovered on the Dutchmen 49.
  • After each team traded two empty possessions, Stevenson used a 10-play, 72-yard drive capped by a 21-yard field goal by Gavin Locklear to get on the board with 48 seconds left in the first.

SECOND QUARTER

  • After an LVC three-and-out, Vincent Lee returned a 41-yard punt 52 yards for a touchdown with 58 seconds gone in the quarter to make it 9-0.
  • Senior Brody Coleman came up with an interception on Lebanon Valley's next drive, picking off Kody Kegarise at the LVC 48 and returning it to the 30 before a Mustang penalty moved the offense back to the 40.
  • Two rushes by Crabb, a seven-yarder followed by a 33-yard scamper put the Mustangs up 15-0 with 11:56 left in the half.
  • The Mustang defense registered another interception, with senior Ashton Leschke picking off Kegarise at the Stevenson 36 with 10:07 left.
  • After completing two passes for 23 yards to Chaz Lyles, a 41-yard run by Crabb with 8:59 left before halftime put the Mustangs up 22-0.
  • Stevenson went 71 yards in 14 plays and got down to the LVC 10 with a minute left, but Crabb was intercepted at the 1 with 57 seconds to go by LVC's Grant Gaumer.
  • Stevenson outgained Lebanon Valley 262-78 in the first half.

THIRD QUARTER

  • Lebanon Valley had the ball in Mustang territory for the first time all day when a blocked punt on Stevenson's first drive put the Dutchmen on the Stevenson 36.
  • A one-yard run by Ryan Fink with 8:09 left put LVC on the board and cut Stevenson's lead to 22-7.
  • Stevenson countered with an 11-play, 65-yard drive capped by a one-yard rush by Lyles on a direct snap with 2:50 left as Stevenson went back up by three scores, 29-7.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • A six-yard shovel pass from Crabb to Lyles with 13:10 left pushed Stevenson's lead up to 36-7.
  • After Lebanon Valley gained just one first down on its next drive, a fumble by Stevenson at its own 20 put the Dutchmen in Mustang territory for the second time all day with 9:54 left.
  • The Dutchmen were unable to score and turned it over on downs with 7:16 to go.
  • Stevenson went three-and-out on its next drive, and Lebanon Valley engineered a 14-play, 76-yard drive to get down to the Mustang 15, but Kegarise was intercepted for the third time on the day, this time by Mason Setness at the 4, with 12 seconds left.

NUMBERS AND NOTES

  • Crabb finished 22-26 passing for 199 yards and a touchdown, while also carrying nine times for 113 yards and two scores.
  • Lyles finished with 11 catches for 85 yards and a score, and also had a rushing touchdown.  His 11 grabs were the most by a Mustang since Devin Salisbury had 12 receptions for 67 yards against King's on September 9 last season.
  • Lee also had five catches for 39 yards.
  • Lee's punt return was the first for a TD by a Stevenson player since Preston Addo had one on September 16, 2017 against FDU-Florham.  It is the third punt return TD in program history, with Addo having the other two.
  • The Stevenson defense had a takeaway for the 61st straight game.
  • Leschke finished with nine tackles, including one for a loss, in addition to his interception.
  • Brian Latham and Hanif Jones each finished with six stops, while Mike Datu had a sack and four tackles.
  • Stevenson outgained Lebanon Valley 397-211, with the Mustangs holding their opponent under 300 yards of total offense for the second straight week.
  • LVC held a 31:29-28:31 edge in time of possession.
  • Lebanon Valley entered Mustang territory just three times on the afternoon.
  • The three Mustang interceptions were a season high and the most since November 4 of last season against Wilkes.
  • The series between Stevenson and Lebanon Valley is now tied 4-4.

WHAT'S NEXT

  • Stevenson hits the road next Saturday, traveling to Widener for a 1:00 contest.
  • The Mustangs are back at Mustang Stadium on Saturday, October 20, when they host Wilkes for a noon Homecoming contest.
