Shenandoah Tops Hampden-Sydney

More news about: Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University football team set a program record for offensive yards Saturday in a 59-34 ODAC victory over visiting Hampden-Sydney.

Shenandoah (3-2, 1-1 ODAC) rolled up 658 yards of offense in taking out the Tigers (1-3, 1-1).

The record-setting day breaks the previous mark of 611 set last season versus Randolph-Macon.

IN DEPTH

Hornets quarterback Hayden Bauserman did most of the damage, setting a new program record with 47 completions in 63 attempts for 490 yards and five touchdowns against one interception.

Bauserman completed passes to 10 different receivers with Jalen Hudson hauling in 13 passes for 92 yards and Adrian DeNeal catching a pair of touchdown passes.

The Hornets added another 168 yards on the ground with Rashadeen Byrd Jr gaining 129 yards and two touchdowns on just six carries. The frosh had a touchdown runs of 46 and 25 yards, the latter to make the score 52-20 with 22 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

The 47 completions breaks the mark of 46 he set last month versus Hobart College.

Shenandoah scored the first 24 points of the game, and after H-SC completed an 8-play, 76-yard drive with 44 seconds remaining in the first half, the Hornets answered with a scoring drive of their own in the waning moments.

Taking over of its own 47 after the Tigers elected to squib kick it, Bauserman led the Hornets on a 5-play, 53-yard drive that culminated in a 2-yard Mario Wisdom TD run as time expired.

Wisdom's TD, and subsequent Patrick Ritchie PAT, gave the hosts a 31-6 halftime advantage.

The two teams each scored four touchdowns in the second half with SU scoring 21 of its 28 points in the third quarter.

Shenandoah's final scoring drive, a 12-play, 96-yard affair that took 6:13, started on its own 4 following a Daquan Pridget interception of an Alec Cobb pass.

SU allowed H-SC 552 yards in total offense, but picked off Cobb twice and turned the Tigers over on downs on three different occasions.

Hampden-Sydney was also just 5 of 13 on third down conversions.

QUOTABLE

"Today might have been one of the most complete performances we have ever had," Hornets head coach Scott Yoder said. "Our offensive was outstanding and our defense came up with some big stops."
