Hopkins' Margraff to Serve as Assistant in TAZÓN DE ESTRELLAS

Dec. 15, 2017

BALTIMORE, MD – Jim Margraff, who recently completed his 28th season as the head football coach at Johns Hopkins, will be back on the sidelines on Saturday, December 16 as he'll serve as the offensive line coach for Team Stars & Stripes in the 20th annual Tazón De Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) at the Margarita Aztiazarán de Fimbres Stadium at CETYS University in Tijuana, Mexico.

Team Stars & Stripes, a 40-man all-star team comprised of NCAA Division III players from across the country, will take on the CONADEIP All-Stars from Mexico's private universities. Kickoff its set for 12 pm local time (3 pm ET) and fans can follow the game via live video and live stats.

This is the first time Margraff has served as an assistant coach at the game and he is one of six assistant coaches on Don De Waard's staff. De Waard will be coaching in his sixth Bowl of the Stars and has won three of the previous five games. Margraff and the staff arrived in Mexico earlier this week to prepare the team and participate in a variety of community service and team-building initiatives leading up to Saturday's game.

Margraff worked closely with Global Football, the event organizer, in 2016 when he took his Johns Hopkins football team to Italy for an eight-day trip that included visits to Venice, Florence and Rome and a game against the Lazio Marines.

The all-time winningest coach in Johns Hopkins and Maryland state history with a record of 209-87-3 since taking over at Homewood in 1990, Margraff also ranks fourth among active Division III head coaches. He has guided the Blue Jays to 13 Centennial Conference titles and nine trips to the NCAA Division III Playoffs.

Coaching the offensive line will be nothing new for Margraff, who served as the offensive line coach at the University at Albany, the University of Rochester and Columbia University prior to becoming the head coach at Johns Hopkins. The offensive line has been perhaps the most accomplished group since Margraff became the Blue Jays' head coach; 37 of the program's 38 First Team All-Centennial Conference selections have played under his direction and 10 Johns Hopkins offensive linemen have earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors since 1998.
