No. 11 Brockport spoils Buffalo State homecoming, 33-0

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Nationally No. 11-ranked Brockport limited Buffalo State to just 124 yards of total offense, dealing the Bengals a 33-0 homecoming defeat in an Empire 8 game today at Coyer Field.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE

  • Quarterback Kyle Hoppy (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) was under pressure for much of the afternoon, finishing just 5 of 13 for 76 yards with two interceptions.  He was also sacked five times before being knocked from the game.
  • Kevin Torrillo (Amherst/Sweet Home) was 6 of 10 for 37 yards in relief.
  • Jamar Rutledge (Buffalo/McKinley) caught three passed for 56 yards.
  • Bart Mazzara (Lockport/Starpoint) had a team-best nine tackles, and Tiquan Simpkins (Syracuse/Henninger) had an interception.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Brockport opened the scoring with the only points of the first quarter with a 25-yard field goal by Brett Renzi.
  • The Golden Eagles took control in the second quarter with three touchdowns to take a 24-0 lead into halftime.
  • Joe Germinerio hit Jerry Thompson for a 7-yard touchdown strike, Germinerio scored on a 14- yard run, and then Daquan Hubbard reeled in a 77-yard catch and run with a minute remaining after Brockport's second interception of the first half.
  • Brockport added to its lead early in the second half when Alex West sacked Hoppy in the end zone for a safety.
  • The Golden Eagles completed the scoring in the final minute of the third quarter with Hubbard's second touchdown reception of the game from 5 yards out.

FOR THE FOES

  • Germinerio finished 18 of 26 for 226 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 43 yards and a score.
  • Hubbard had four catches for 112 yards and three touchdowns.
  • West led the defense with nine tackles, including 3.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and an interception.
