More news about: William Paterson

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson football team (0-4, 0-3 NJAC) dropped a 66-0 decision to visiting No. 22/23 Wesley (2-1, 2-0 NJAC) Sept. 23.

Junior linebacker Charles Faulkner paced the Pioneer defense with seven tackles and a forced fumble. Sophomore defensive back Tyler Gross made six solo stops, including 1.0 for a loss, and sophomore linebacker Corey Anthony added six tackles (0.5 sack).

Faulkner's forced fumble was recovered by sophomore linebacker De'Shaun Morris to end the Wolverines' opening possession, but two plays later Wesley senior cornerback DaJahn Lowery returned an interception 57 yards for a score. Sophomore Nick Bruhn kicked the PAT and the Wolverines owned a 7-0 edge 1:18 into the contest.

A fumble gave Wesley the ball inside the WP-20, and sophomore running back E.J. Lee picked up the 17 yards on three carries for a 14-0 edge with 12:35 on the clock.

A turnover and one-yard Lee rush pushed it to 21-0 25 seconds later, and Lee's two-yard effort gave the Wolverines a 28-0 advantage with 4:14 remaining in the first quarter.

A 23-yard completion from junior Khaaliq Burroughs to senior James Okike opened the second period (35-0, 14:47), and Lee's runs of 64 (42-0, 10:41) and 13 (49-0 7:04) yards finished the first-half scoring.

A Bruhn 36-yard field goal with 4:27 left, coupled with a Chandler Armstrong 10-yard TD on the ground with 2:54 on the clock, made it a 59-0 margin by the end of the third quarter. Freshman running back Gyair Sharper finished the scoring with a three-yard run midway through the fourth period.

Sophomore quarterback Mike Yarosz was 1-for-5 for eight yards and an interception, while senior running back Matt Olivo picked up 16 yards on seven rushing attempts.

Burroughs went 9-for-13 for 123 yards and a score under center, and Lee rushed 13 times for 128 yards and five touchdowns. Okike caught three passes for 51 yards and a TD.

Senior linebacker Samer Manna led all players with eight tackles (1.5 TFL) while adding a fumble forced and recovered. Freshman linebacker Dante Daniel chipped in six stops.

William Paterson will enjoy a bye week before heading to Kean Saturday, Oct. 7, at 1:00 p.m.
